| I agree with Matt18 I didnt like the movie and prefer not to associated with City of Angels, I like listening to it on its own. I watched the movie with with my bf but it was predictable and I dont like Nicholas Cage and Seth is just not my type! ...the song however is fucking awesome and I would give up forever to hear John R sing -god he has a really beautiful, sexy voice. I loved the song from the first time I heard it on radio- I was probably 13. Theres something about the way it starts off that makes it really unique...very very romantic and haunting. Maybe it doesnt have much personal meaning to The Goo Goo Dolls but Im thankful for Iris because it made me buy their albums (actually half the songs scared me when I was younger because they were so dark!) and they have written some really great music, Im glad that they exist!! | |

I was really nice to hear this song on her album, SIREN-her music has changed a lot in many ways and I am happy for her- I love her music and I think she is a beautiful person and i want her to be happy, after everything that she has been through-it will make more sense if you have heard Oyster, and how dark she was then... but I heard it at the right time in my life and it really reflected my feelings-I am glad for the line- the laughter that was dead-is coming :) |

why do all songs, including this one, have to be about love, and SO FOCUSED on the love aspect? Sure, I dont mind if it really is a love song, but i dont personally relate it to love. To me its more about some place that was special to you as a child, or when you were growing up-I like the line, "I knew the pathway like the back of my hand"- and to sit by water is the most comforting, revitalising thing-I always feel complete when i sit by my river- OH SIMPLE THING-WHERE HAVE YOU GONE! |

re: his songs- they are really simple and beautiful, and he makes me cry. Standing so tall?-apart from what has been explained, does it also mean being too talented and too successful as a person?? re: his death- apparently a close family member, (if anyone is ever close to anyone at all) said that she prefers to believe that he took his own life in the end, instead of saying his death was an accident -because it would seem all the more tragic and sad if he really wanted to live and didnt intend to end his life... I know everyone wont agree but i sort of understand why she said this- when i was first recommended his music i listened to his songs and wanted to know more about him, so i read up a little on him only to discover that he was actually dead-like so many musicians and artists I like. It was a shock to me because the person who introduced me to his music did not tell me that he was not alive anymore; it makes me really sad, even now, but also glad in the end that such a person as Nick Drake, and such music he made- existed and lives on today. |

hmmm, the song means a lot to me, ive liked it since i was a kid so i didnt ever associate it with love-fucking-or any person in particular! Its more that i fell in love with the melody and i take her singing as part of the music-as if its not even english!! Shes so talented, the words fall into place really well, just like in gravity-and some other songs...I know sway is a very sweet song and its her most famous song but I dont take it word for word. Im very glad for this song because I was able to discover Bic, i love both her albums Drive and Beautiful Collision-shes my favourite artist! |

someone i met once played this on his guitar-incidentally when he was very high!-but the song does not=simply getting high and is not just about a girl up a tree.... what i heard played was closer to the DVD version; i later heard a live recording and didnt realise it was so different-I think its nice even just with one acoustic. Id never heard a pearljam song before this-in my tree got me interested in them. the guy who played it really liked them and now its all starting to make sense why-thank you everyone for explaining it I love the idea of seeing the ground below from up high in a tree-like seeking refuge-like seeing where others cant-where nobody can touch you-where nothing disturbs you-the media, the news, the things in society that are so absurd, which you long to get away from- its sad that his friends dont seem to be able to notice him-its a beautiful experience being up high but it is also extremely lonely; -and then there are some that would probably protest by saying that trees were never meant to be climbed... anyway, I like this song :) |

From Siren-another beautiful album :) seeing your favourite artist live-- "ive been riding all day on a bus just to hear you sing"!! (-lol it reminds me of a guitarist i used to be in love with!) but now its more about her music, I listen to it when I want to be lost in the valley of sound...what a beautiful thought! |

I fell in love with this song the first time i heard it! Its from OYSTER-probably one of her darkest albums, its really nice to have this track in the middle. At the time I heard it I felt exactly this; to be stripped down to truth and bone, its a really beautiful thought. the coda sings well too. |

this is such a sweet song!!!!! I love heather nova and this is off one of her earlier albums, titled glowstars-or is it her first? There was a room in my old house with a ceiling covered in those glow-in-the-dark stars- and then there were times I used to lie on the beach at night staring up at the stars for hours and hours too- she talks of junkies and getting high but somehow she is so pure and bare and very, very sweet.... |
