Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a really cool song...but why the heck is it so short? How can they give us two minutes of awesomeness, only to have it suddenly dead end? Why couldn't they have made a "Kashmir" out of this?

Led Zeppelin – Hey Hey What Can I Do Lyrics 17 years ago
I love it when he says "I got to tell her she's the only one I really love..." the way he stretches out "love" is really cool.

Sounds like the hazing ritual upon entering Hell.

Cannibal Corpse – Maniacal Lyrics 17 years ago
Really captures that homicidal maniac persona, doesn't it?

Boston – Foreplay/Long Time Lyrics 17 years ago
It's hard to believe these songs came out back in 1976. A true gem that will stand the test of time.

Pink Floyd – Hey You Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the only song that has ever physically brought me to tears. I'm really not much of a fan and I guess 'The Wall' is a concept album telling a story. But as for me on this song alone, its bitter exposition of isolation/loneliness/emptiness, culimating in that soul-shatteringly sorrowful solo instrumental section, really hit me deep.

Agreed. Spectacular song.

Rammstein – Amerika Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah, maybe this site is concerned with talking about the songs...but when a song has thematic material or content--like the political qualities of this song--it's a part of the discussion. And if it reveals how the USA and foreigners feel about each other, very well.

I'm an American, and I know many around the world are resentful of the US--not only because of our government or the unjust and immoral wars we have launched, but also due to this cultural infringement occurring in other countries. And I resent it, too. I don't want anyone in another country having to suffer any detriment to their own heritage and culture. The unique qualities of each nation should be cherished, and it makes the world a better and more interesting place. If I was visiting Germany and I saw a bunch of posters for Coca-Cola and Pizza Hut and whatever other American icons, I would be appalled.

I really am sorry, and I wish I could do something about it, but as a sole individual I am virtually powerless. All I can say is that if you aren't happy with something, revolt against it.

I love the interlude, with the heavy-delay riff instrumental.

Slayer – Cult Lyrics 19 years ago
Overall, a pretty self-explanatory song: religion is a false doctrine that breeds hate and violence.

A couple of people have criticized the lyrical writing--I think it's just right. No, it's not about seeming like a 14 year old's rant, it's about being forceful and direct to the point.

I really like these lines:

"Is war and greed the master plan?
The Bible's where it all began
It's propaganda sells despair
And spreads the virus everywhere"

"The prestilence of Jesus Christ
There never was a sacrifice
No man upon the crucifix"

"Through fear you're sold into the fraud"
(so true)

"His propaganda sells despair
And spreads the violence everywhere" (kind of a mirror message of that earlier line, just swapping violence for virus--both quite accurate observations, might I add)

My favorite Slayer song.

Cannibal Corpse – Make Them Suffer Lyrics 19 years ago
Freakin' badass song. I like the lyrics too. "Let them taste the wrath as the agony consumes them," "Deprivation thrives as the therapy continues," "The reason for their martyrdom they will never know"--good stuff.

As for a meaning--I interpret as something like God's declaration for imposing suffering and misery on the human race.

Six Feet Under – Nonexistence Lyrics 19 years ago
Good song. Cool riff and I like the vocals. My favorite part of the song is the title, "Nonexistence." Don't ask me why, it just cracks me up.

Radiohead – Airbag Lyrics 19 years ago
Damn I love this song. I love the little interlude (solo?) part where it sounds all space-y and tremolo-y. And that intro guitar bit is awesome.

I haven't read all of everyone's interpretations but I think it's about surviving a near-miss and then having that extraordinary feeling of being back. This would be a great song to a skydiving video.

Puddle of Mudd – Control Lyrics 19 years ago
Sure, the lyrics are kind of dumb. But, musically, it's an entertaining song. Love the main riff, and the chorus bit is cool too.

Rebel Meets Rebel – Get Outta My Life Lyrics 19 years ago
Kickass song...I love it in the second chorus when adds the 'motherf*cker' to that line.

Also a blazing solo by Dime...damn, I miss him.

Tool – Vicarious Lyrics 19 years ago
Some others have commented that this is a more straightforward song in meaning than Tool's previous songs--hello? "Aenema" anyone? The blatant "f*ck humanity" meaning of that song is just as apparent upon a first listen in that song as the meaning of this new single is easily understandable. That's not a knock, because I think straightforwardness can be potent, as it is in this song.

My favorite line is "The universe is hostile, so impersonal, devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been." He acknowledges this truth in existence and contends we should accept it. He's not the first one to reflect on it but it's always a strong truth.

Awesome, awesome song. If I were asked to nominate a song to be an atheist anthem, this would be it.

Radiohead – Paranoid Android Lyrics 19 years ago
While "The Tourist" is my personal favorite Radiohead song, I think "Paranoid Android" is from an objective evaluation--if objectivity is even possible here--Radiohead's best song. It's beautifully structured, exciting, displays amazing contrast in parts, all while still being an emotional train ride--all in all, a song of astounding musical composition. Not to mention that insanely awesome guitar solo right in the middle.

Many different interpretations have been offered here by different members. I think this is definitely a song where it could mean something different to every person. As for me, I can't even attempt at a meaning, personal or otherwise. I'm not sure what exactly the song is about, but that doesn't prevent it from blowing me away.

Radiohead – Treefingers Lyrics 20 years ago
I think the song works perfectly fine even on it's own. It's too bad that many fans dismiss it as filler, this and Hunting Bears. It's a testament to RH's gifts that even a three-minute instrumental song is as touching and trance-inducing as any other regular song that a person would call "deep."

I cry every time I listen to this song. Something about it affects the emotion centers of my brain. It means something to me that I can't explain. Thank you once again, RH.

Radiohead – Bones Lyrics 20 years ago
We have different criteria, obviously. Even if a song as 'obvious' lyrics that's not necessarily a knock against the song. I don't think 'depth in meaning' of song lyrics has any correlation with the quality, or at least my enjoyment, of the song. For me, this is an awesome song, just on a pure enjoyment level.

Just, The Bends, and My Iron Lung are all good songs, too...although I don't like the other songs you mention...Planet Telex, Street Spirit, High & Dry are the handful of Radiohead songs I don't care for. I know Sreet Spirit is a big fan favorite but I think it's majorly overrated compared to the dozens of other great Radiohead songs.

Radiohead – Creep Lyrics 20 years ago
Speaking as a male... you'd have to be an alien to not relate to this song.

I love how the distorted guitar explodes the moment he says "...but I'm a creep." It really drives home the terror of realizing what he is.

Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 21 years ago
I pretty much agree with earlier intepretations of the song.

Such an amazing song. I love the piano into, and the part where it builds to "For a minute there, I lost myself..." is staggering.

Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics 21 years ago
A lot of Radiohead fans hold this song as one of their very favorites--but it's the only rh song I don't like. Why not? I don't really have a well-described reason why I don't like it; it just doesn't rub me the right way, I suppose.

Radiohead – Electioneering Lyrics 21 years ago
I see this as the only real straight-out rock song on OKC. All the other songs are the type where you sit listening to them and they hit you in the gut with their gravity, but 'Electioneering' is more of a tune you can have on the radio when doing chores.

I've always just taken this song to be about depression.
