Radiohead – Glass Eyes Lyrics | 7 years ago |
To me, this song sounds like this song is from the point of view of the drifter/traveler who suddenly feels uncomfortable wherever they are, but inside still feels the love of the universe. |

Widespread Panic – Ride Me High Lyrics | 7 years ago |
These lyrics are pretty wrong... I'm listening to 9/7/13 (Lockn) and I get this (my changes in caps) Low-down way you're feeling, the FUNKY things you do HEY HEY HEY let me talk to you I just WANNA whisper in your SASSY ear Tell you that I love you, WIPE AWAY your fear Low-down, slow down, FEEL IT GO DOWN, FUNKY THINGS YOU DO HEY HEY HEY LET ME TALK TO YOU HIGH HIGH HIGH, how high can you go Ride me high this morning, ride me high some more (REPEATED) The way you move your body, it is a crying shame I won't tell nobody if you will do the same ONE THING THAT'S FOR CERTAIN, ONE THING THAT'S FOR SURE THE LESS YOU WANT THE MORE YOU GOT SO DON'T YOU CRY FOR MORE! HIGH HIGH HIGH how high can you go Ride me high this morning, ride me high some more... |

Radiohead – I Can't Lyrics | 7 years ago |
As someone who struggles with anxiety disorders, I interpret this song as such a struggle. Anxiety makes me think all these things, only, not so eloquently. |

So much of Tidal seems like it is about coming of age, which makes sense given the age at which she wrote these songs. I think this song is about becoming a different person than your parents. |
Brand New – Play Crack the Sky Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[jessifofessi:17517] I disagree, I find the comment that suggests James 3:4-12 to be more on point, but I'm still glad to be looking up the verses and thinking about it. |
Brand New – Play Crack the Sky Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I think this song is a metaphor for Jesse Lacey's grandfather's death after a battle with cancer. I can imagine the "sos call a quarter past 4 in the morning" being the terrible call a family gets when it's time to get to the hospital and say the last good bye ("this is the end.") Even with "four months of calm seas" it still seems "out of nowhere" and he sees his grandfather as the "lighthouse" of his family and he's so aware of everything he's ever said to him and wants "one more day to give my love and repay debts." My Papa died 9 years ago tomorrow, and this song just hit me that way, from what I've learned of Jesse's influences and my own life. |

The Police – Shadows In The Rain Lyrics | 7 years ago |
The Sting solo version of this song (on The Dream of the Blue Turtles) is so much more exciting. I usually prefer the Police to Sting solo, but this song is the exception. Turn it up and dance! |
The Police – De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[C:17449]-Marsh When my youngest brother was a baby my family and I would sing this to him like it was baby talk, so I love your interpretation, but I don't think Sting would agree. I heard he meant this song to be political and was disappointed that most only head the nonsense words and not the real lyrics. |
The Police – Does Everyone Stare Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[chilinomore:17448] imo it's figurative and means I never realized how much I could hurt someone until I did, or I didn't know my strength, forgive me for being me |

Grateful Dead – St. Stephen Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Robert Hunter told Relix that he did not write this about anyone in particular. In 2006, on Phil & Friends tour, I heard this tale about how this song is about a rapist. Despite the beautiful words, the imagery makes sense, like "lady finger dipped in moonlight." I was told that "one man gathers what another man spills" refers to how the community deals with such a person: they spill his brains with lsd and talk him down to being a better person. I personally understand the rape interpretation, but think the line "one man gathers what another man spills" and "wrap the babe in scarlet colors call it your own" imply there was a pregnancy from the rape and the child was welcome and loved. It may be about consensual or casual sex, but I had heard that around. |

Could these lyrics be about someone or something you know is a bad influence just always calling you back to be part of their schemes? |
Grateful Dead – Looks Like Rain Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I saw an interview fairly recently, either from TRI or from the documentary "The Other One," in which Bob Weir is talking about Janis Joplin and Pigpen, and how loud Janis would scream, "Daddy daddy daddy!" when they were having sex. One of the others present said to Bob he always thought this was the inspiration for the lines about "street cats makin' love." Bob did not confirm nor deny. |
Brand New – Missing You Lyrics | 7 years ago |
This song has a misleading happy sound to it, but then the lyrics are so dark and sad. It sounds nothing like it, but reminds me of the song "I'm so happy I can't stop crying" because it's the same in the sad lyrics, but happy tune. |

Dirty Dancing, anyone? This song must be about a relationship similar to that between Johnny and Baby. Baby clearly has jealousies she keeps to herself, and if they went long-term Johnny would have totally weighed her down. |

Fall Out Boy – Miss Missing You Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Your hot whiskey eyes Have fanned the flame Maybe I'll burn a little brighter tonight Let the fire breathe me back to life In the Bible and other literature (and Sting songs) "burn" is code for being horny, and that's how I take it here. |
