Darlin', darlin' Doesn't have a problem Lyin' to herself Cos her liquor's top shelf It's alarming, honestly, How charming she can be Fooling everyone Telling them she's having fun She says, "You don't want to be like me, don't want to see all the things I've seen" I'm dyin', I'm dyin' She says, "You don't want to get this way, famous and dumb at an early age" Lyin', I'm lyin' The boys, the girls, They all like Carmen She gives them butterflies Bats her cartoon eyes She laughs like God Her mind's like a diamond Audiotune lies She's still shinin' Like lighting White lightning Carmen, Carmen Staying up till morning Only 17 but she walks the streets so mean It's alarming truly How disarming you can be Eatin' soft ice cream Coney Island queen She says, "You don't want to be like me, lookin' for fun, gettin' high for free" I'm dyin', I'm dyin' She says, "You don't want to get this way, street walk at night and a star by day" It's tirin', tirin' The boys, the girls, They all like Carmen She gives them butterflies Bats her cartoon eyes She laughs like God Her mind's like a diamond Audiotune lies She's still shinin' Like lighting White lightning Baby's all dressed up with nowhere to go That's the little story of the girl you know Relying on the kindness of strangers Tying cherry knots Smiling, doing party favours Put your red dress on, put your lipstick on Sing your song, song, now the camera's on And you're alive again The boys, the girls, They all like Carmen She gives them butterflies Bats her cartoon eyes She laughs like God Her mind's like a diamond Audiotune lies She's still shinin' Like lighting White lightning Darlin', Darlin' Doesn't have a problem Lyin' to herself Cos her liquor's top shelf |

| Interpol – Pioneer to the Falls Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The first page of this thread is making me positively crap myself laughing. "I think it's about going out with that special someone?" Really? Uh, okay. Anyway, from the first listen to this song, I immediately thought of a man kneeling at the grave of his lover with their children/family, begging her to take them with her. After reading the comments regarding the song being about the St. Guillen murder, it makes so much sense. The three stowaways could be referring to St. Guillen's best friend who was the last to see her alive, as well as her mother and sister. Basically, this song is pretty, but it's eerie as hell. |

| MGMT – The Youth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song seems slightly more profound now. | |
| Stars – What the Snowman Learned About Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love how even though the title of the song talks about a snowman, the lyrics are about summer and heat and beaches. As if love is summer. And summer melts the snow. |

| Stars – Soft Revolution Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Has anyone listened to the version of this song done by The Stills on "Do You Trust Your Friends?" It's COMPLETELY COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, but I love it a lot. Most of the words are cut out of it, though. Weird. |

| Stars – One More Night Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me, this is a song about a guy who is in love with a girl who isn't in love with him. You can tell by the way the stories switch up. She talks about him and how he'll "kill who [she] hates", and basically, he's tender with her and will protect her. But then his part is talking about how she's breaking his heart, and how she's basically using him for the sex -- "Leaving him empty, just because he's a man." -- and they both know that it's the last time they'll be together in that way. It's basically two very different perspectives on the same event. |

| Justin Timberlake – LoveStoned/I Think She Knows (Interlude) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The interlude is amazing, so gorgeous. Absolutely my favorite on the album. Its pretty obvious, the meaning. I like how it transitions easily from when he first sees this girl, and he's just watching her. And then by the end it just feels like he knows this is more than some girl at a club, yeah? Yeah. |

| Massive Attack – Risingson Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
MosDef my favorite Massive Attack song. I just adore it. I agree with dougievile. It's basically about a man who's in this circular relationship with someone. Maybe they've been together for a while, but she's changing. He spends time remembering the way things used to be -- "where have all those flowers gone? long time passing." Being in the club with her is pretty much the turning point, and proves to him that it needs to end. "I found a reason" to end it with her. And then she'll "fade into the background" with the rest of the people there. |

| Oh but I do agree that this is one of the most "real" dandy's songs. | |
| The Dandy Warhols – I Am Sound Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I adore this song. What's funny is that I don't find it to be sad at all. The third line says it all: -- "I have suffered, but my friends say I have learned from it." Basically, this guy has been through a lot in his life. It's been a rough ride, but everything that's happened, and everything he's done, through it all, he's turned out okay. "I am sound." It kinda sends a positive message, in my opinion. That no matter what kinda ish goes on in your life, you just gotta make it through. Very nice. I love it. But I'm a "glass-half-full" kinda girl, myself. :P |

I don't understand what you mean by "Ashlee has gotten a lil of her sis in her in this video..."? I don't see Jessica in her at all. |

| The Killers – Soft Surrender (Where Is She?) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
from the July 2005 issue of Q magazine: Brandon Flowers: "This is about that girl in Scotland [teenager Jodi Jones] who was murdered by her boyfriend [Luke Mitchell], and it's written from the mother's point of view. When I heard the story, it just inspired me to write about it. I hope the mother won't mind..." |

| The Killers – Replaceable Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i'm pretty sure this song wont be on the new album, as its just a demo. damn good song, though. brandon's voice in the demos seems almost slightly more delicate than on the album. i love it. |

| Lamb – Gabriel Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I'm only semi-religious, but study up a lot on Christianity and angels, etc, and I see the connection in this song to the archangel Gabriel, rather than just a character named Gabriel. I think she's just giving the object of her affections the characteristics of the Angel Gabriel, because shes just that taken with him. Angels are said to be perfect beings, and she sees the perfection in him. Love this song, so gorgeous. |

| Frou Frou – Hear Me Out Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This is the most gorgeous song on Details. i agree with the general consensus on this one. "I don't want to feel anything, but I do. And it all comes back to you." Who hasn't felt like that before? Amazing. |

| Massive Attack – Mezzanine Lyrics | 21 years ago |

| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
i have a slightly similar/different interpretation of this song. however, i warn that i'm not good at all this interpretation stuff, but its just what this song means to me: like many others have said, i believe the speaker is singing about a woman he once loved, to whom he is paying a visit after a rough break up. when he gets there, the uncomfort is unbearable, and he's realizing everything that went wrong and why he's alone right now. when he says "the only thing keeping me dry is where i am" he may be referring to the only thing keeping him from falling back in love with her is seeing how different they are now. when he says "i am finally seeing why i was the one worth leaving" he's explaining that he finally understands why a relationship with them would and could never work out, and he's accepting it and realizing he deserves better. he's not happy and he's still lonely, and he still may very well be pushed to drinking "the district sleeps alone tonight after the bars turn out their lights." but at the same time, he's moving on from her until he finds someone better. |
