| Harvey Danger – Little Round Mirrors Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is dedicated to those who are full of themselves: "When you find something you could love half as much / As you love all your little round mirrors." My favorite part is about the shooting star, and how everybody is lined up to see it because it's such a lovely sight but the person he's singing about is too busy with themselves to even take notice. "A surrogate connection leaving you all alone." Nice! I really like the amount of passion he uses to sing that line, too. |

| Harvey Danger – Happiness Writes White Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I like the idea of how it's hard to describe happiness, you try to write it down on paper, but it doesn't show up because it's white on white. It's indescribable. It's cliche to say, but this song really fits my current relationship from "curse the alarm you set" to "amazed you still have skin." |

| Against Me! – Joy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is one of those bright spots on an otherwise fairly dark album. It's so light and gives you hope. It shows that the band isn't all anger and digust, but tells us that through it all, there is a light to keep walking towards. | |
| Murder by Death – The Desert Is on Fire Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| What I really like is on the very first line the words "desert" and "in your eyes" sound like a train whistle, drawing together an image of a train charging down the tracks, setting the audio scenario. Amazing! | |
| Murder by Death – Dynamite Mine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This particular album (In Bocca Al Lupo) is based on Dante's Inferno. | |
| The Arrogant Sons of Bitches – Go Ska! Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song has my vote for THE ska anthem of the third wave. | |
| Propagandhi – With Friends Like These, Who the Fuck Needs COINTELPRO Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It seems to me that he's talking about his own friends, who betray him ("the crippling Judas kiss to christen thee a sinking ship"), or agree with him but then back the ideas with inaction ("the sickening cadence of iron-fists in velvet gloves"). The FBI doesn't need a program to stop his dissent because his friends are doing a fine job of sabatoge by themselves. | |
| Propagandhi – I Want You To Want Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I don't know why Propagandhi would remake this song except for some surface laughs. I'll give it to them, since it was their first album. And I don't know why so many people like NoFX. I like their political songs well enough, but the rest of it just seems so goddamn pointless. O' course, maybe that conversation should be saved for the NoFX board. |

| Dropkick Murphys – The Gang's All Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Anybody know what that secret answering machine track is at the end? | |
| Dropkick Murphys – The Dirty Glass Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree, there are much better DKM songs out there, but this one sticks out in people's heads because of the surprising female vocalist. I do, however, like this song better now that bruins72 said it's about beating alcoholism. Isn't Stephanie Dougherty married to one of the members? Also is this a DKM original or a cover? |
|
| Dropkick Murphys – Curse of a Fallen Soul Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
JewelBlueIbanez got it totally wrong. They do care about their friend, they just aren't going to let their his death get in the way of life. It's less about mourning and being solemn ("While Mothers shed their tears through a vail of desperation...") and more about celebrating the time they had with him by doing what they did best together: Drink and have a good time ("...these fiends of a vicious breed raise holy hell"). "These fiends" refers to the singer and his friends. The chorus is in regards to the unspoken love men share between one another. No guy ever says they love another guy, it's an unspoken kinship ("...with a toast that tells of a love you never shared"). When they talk about "may this round be on the corpse of a dead man" they're saying that the dead guy is going to pay for their drinks, because they know the dead guy isn't going to protest. It's a joke. I hope my brothers play this song at my death and mosh on my grave. |

| The Specials – Nite Klub Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Goldfiner covered this song and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones make a reference to this song (I won't dance in a club like this/All the girls are slags/and the beer tastes just like piss) in their song, "Aint Talkin' 'Bout Love." | |
| Goldfinger – Nite Klub Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| For those of you who are wondering which cover it is, it belongs to The Specials. | |
| The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Riot On Broad Street Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The Bosstones teamed with Big Bad Bollocks to give this song that irish flare. | |
| Dropkick Murphys – Cadence to Arms Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Don't they play on Highland Pipes anyway? This is the song that started it all. I downloaded it in the hey-days of Napster and have been in love with everything else ever since. I wonder what Mike is doing right now... |
|
| Dropkick Murphys – The Green Fields of France (Eric Bogle cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is nice, though in the context of the album, it does slow it up quite a bit. I rather like it being different from most of their stuff because this album seemed to be about proving range. Fast paced punk, melodic ballads, fun rock and roll, even more traditional irish sounds mixed in (a la Shipping Out to Boston). Overall, I think this song is appropriate. |

| Mad Caddies – Last Breath Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Life after death could be dealing with life without alcohol. However he mentions that he'll never get sober, so perhaps he's simply referring to a hangover. Each night he drinks he "dies" and then comes back to miserable life. | |
| Mad Caddies – Drinking for 11 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
In the Warped magazine for, I think 03, the Caddies reminded everybody that this song is not a call to action, but rather a warning. Didn't really understand the play on words until now. Cute. |

| Dropkick Murphys – Your Spirit's Alive Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The liner notes state: "This song was written in memory of our dear friend Greg "Chickenman" Riley. When Greg passed away on 5-12-04 the Riley family was kind enough to let us take part in his funeral services and the band was asked to play after the funeral. The experience helped us deal with the grief we were experiencening and helped bring hte different generations of friends and family together through music. This song is about the experiences of that day and the pain of losing one of your best friends. If you would like to make a donation in Chickenman's memory, please write to The Greg "Chickenman" Riley Foundation 12 St. Catherines Road Norwood, MA 02062 Also: "Roslindale native and C.M./B.U. hockey standout Mark Bavis and former Bruin great Ace Bailey were tragically killed aboard United Airlines flight 175 on Sept. 11, 2001 Please check out the Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation at www.markbavisleadershipfoundation.org" This song introduces the best album since "Sing Loud, Sing Proud." It seems obvious that the band has been affected in many ways by the events of September 11th as well as the events that followed. Keep 'em comin' DKM! |
|
| Dropkick Murphys – Wicked Sensitive Crew Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is actually entitled "W.S.C." Dropkick Murphys admits that "Mickey actually died in Rocky 3 but, hey, sue us two rhymed better." I love this song. I shook my head when Lars Frederiksen (of Rancid, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards) gave a "shout out" to Simple Plan, so it's nice to know we've still got some real hardasses about. Meatsuit...ha! |
|
| Dropkick Murphys – The Warrior's Code Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is, of course, the albums title, as well as the first single. It is among my least favorite songs on this album. I assumed Micky (freehat17 misspelled the name) was the guy from the Rocky movies, but as it turns out (the liner notes tell us): "This song is about Massachusettes' own Micky Ward, a boxing legend who defines the heart and sould of the sport. He also happens to be the guy on the front cover..." |

| Dropkick Murphys – Last Letter Home Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The liner notes for this one read as follows: "We had already finished this song that was based on general correspondences to and from the soldiers serving in Iraq when we were contacted by the family of Sgt. Andrew Farrar who had recently died while serving there. The family wanted to tell us he was a big supporter o the Dropkick Murphys. They also passed on a letter that he had written to his mother shortly before his death in which he thanks her for sending him a Dropkick Murphys CD and said that if anything should happen to him while in Iraq, he would like one of our songs played at his funeral. He also left behind a wife, Melissa and two young boys Tyler and Liam. His tour of duty in Iraq was coming to an end and he was due to come home and renew his wedding vows with Melissa to another song of ours, "Forever." Sgt. Farrar died on January 28th, on his 31st birthday. We were present at his funeral to grant his wish and played "Fields of Athenry" as his casket entered the church. This song was re-written to include exceprts from that letter." Great song, too. Bound to be a classic. It makes me wonder if they played it classicaly or punk rockily. I hope it was the latter. |

| Big D and the Kids Table – Little Bitch Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
They've got a couple of videos for this on their site that are kinda amusing. This song holds a place in my heart because my friends and I would go to the school's arcade and DDR to The Specials. So in my mind Big D not only pays tribute to one of the finest ska bands, but also brings back wonderful memories of hanging out with my friends. I thought "layered hair and flared jeans" might have been changed to update the song, but I guess fashion was similar between the release of the original and the cover. |
|
| The Specials – Little Bitch Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song appears in the video game Dance Dance Revolution (though it is abridged). It was also competantly covered by Big D and the Kids Table. | |
| Big D and the Kids Table – 175 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I am totally not a fan of this song. It screams PADDING! | |
| Rx Bandits – Pal-Treaux Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think more than a relationship it's just the excessive crap that people hold on to in general. Do we need the power of SUVs? Do we need another Hello Kitty pillow? So many people get caught up in their addictions. This song is about simplifying. |
|
| Rancid – Django Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
According to: dvdmaniacs.net In the movies, Django is a man who we're first introduced to when he is found dragging a coffin through the desert...Quite possibly one of the bloodiest and muddiest of the Spaghetti Westerns, Django still holds up today and it's influence can still be seen in recent films like Reservoir Dogs and Desperado. There have been over 40 unofficial sequels, however in name only. It's too bad the song doesn't have much meaning (as far as has been discussed, anyway) because it is among the coolest sounding songs on the album. |
|
| The Weakerthans – One Great City! Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Oddly enough, this song makes me want to move to Winnepeg. I enjoy that melancholy love-hate feeling; it's one that can only be temporarily cured by falling asleep next to the fireplace. It's inspiring to me. | |
| Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards – The Viking Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It depends on what the term "under age women" entails. In Iowa (and other places), as long as the girl consents, sex is legal. In Hawaii, an outrageous 14 years old is legal. Still, it's not something most people would be proud of. I added this song, probably seconds after GhostChe, but mine was formatted much better. |
|
| Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards – My Life to Live Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I like this song, in particular, for it's honest approach. You wonder what causes a man to become like Lars and this opens it right up. Catchy, too. | |
| Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards – Bastards Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Sounds like he wants to form his own crew of fans with a specific title and theme song. Misfits have their fiend club, Lars has his bastards. Now he needs a logo...or is that the Hellcat? | |
| Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards – 1% Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is LF&tB's best song. At least from Viking, anyway. A nice hardcore ballad and a catchy way of pushing the boundaries of what is and is not taboo. Namely the word "terrorist." It takes a bit of clout (or stupidity) to claim such a title, especially given the times. But honestly, does it surprise anyone? | |
| The Snake the Cross the Crown – On The Threshold Of Eternitity Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I saw these guys play with Murder By Death. This song sold me on the album. The way they played it live. It had such an epic feeling. | |
