Seriously? This is one of the song's they wouldn't release? They must've just spun a wheel with all of BYOP's songs on it to figure out which one's they would cut. This kind of dumb shit makes me glad that music piracy is really sticking it to the corporate side of the industry. Hopefully one day the listeners will finish the job and we can get these silly fuckers out of the recording studios for good... |

raov, did you not read the last seven posts? Brown is not drugs... it's the poop shoot. You know, when all those people wrote about the shocker...? That's when you hold up four fingers, pull the ring finger down with your thumb... and go to work. |

This song's not really my favorite. There's nothing subtle or masterful about the lyrics, it's almost like they're beating you over the head with it. The Faint's still one of the best though. |

I'm mostly with weezeology, but I also think that "every stupid struggle" refers more to the pain he experiences within himself, concerning the doubts he has about his faith, and how he (sometimes reluctantly) ignores or looks past these doubts.
That's how I feel a lot, because there's a lot of generic brand Christianity flowing around the evangelical mainstream. It sometimes makes a person with a more unique faith feel lonely, to the point that they'd go to a bar and talk about it with a complete stranger who might not even care.
I could also just be projecting. Pedro does rock. |

I didn't get this song until my grandmother (my mother's mother) died. I'm not sure if he's saying the things I think he's saying, but as a son who was very selfish when I should have been more supportive to my mom, while she was greiving her loss. But even though I wasn't all I should have been, my mother still bounced back and moved on, like the person the song is about.
Looking at the lyrics again, it seems he's writing it to a girlfriend who was grieving the loss of her mother. Just my thoughts. Either way, the song is great when I'm in a good mood. |

It could be about domestic violence on a surface level, but I get the feeling that they're aiming a little deeper. I think of it being written about a judgmental person, as a judgmental person would get off to pointing out when other people "blackout," and even "getting off" to it.
And that maybe the very pointing out of other people's shortcomings would be what they mean by "punching skulls on the bathroom floor."
I would think that the 2nd person to 3rd person switch has to do with the lyricist's moving from pointing out the general skull punching habits of individual this song is written about or to, to a specific instance in which the judgmental person beats on the "little girl" they sing to at the end of the song.
I saw them play this live, and it was the awesome. |

I'm with iwasdeadthenalive on this one, especially the "Hallelujah, I'm not breathin'" part. It's not just you, he's definately singing that line, and it makes sense to me to view the song as a description of one's relationship to God, especially looking at the first verse, and how well it articulates the feeling of inadequacy many have when trying to relate to God, and live up to what they believe to be His standards. "I'd give my soul to the one who has the courage to find me, and free me." That's definately my favorite line, maybe even the most beautiful line on the entire album. |

It feels like they might be talking about Mary and Joseph's flight to Egypt when Herod tried to kill Jesus. Maybe Herod's the Monster, maybe Satan is, but either way, it seems to line up well with the first verse. |
