Haha I doubt this is what it's supposed to mean but for some reason this song always seems to remind me of the movie The Village.
It feels like they might be talking about Mary and Joseph's flight to Egypt when Herod tried to kill Jesus. Maybe Herod's the Monster, maybe Satan is, but either way, it seems to line up well with the first verse.
i read that it was about one of michal shepards childhood nightmares. and thats what the lyrics are based off of. lots of their songs kind of have that mystical aspect
