well, its been sometime and some hatred has passed and cat power is were its at. let me say I rather think I was poising some things for peopl to think about. ADmitadly overboard...but who the fuck cares just skip over it. Hell I didnt even read it. I was on a Jesus kick then but so what, what else is there but the pursuit of God and ourselves in relation to him that if you believe. Myself I would do alot to save someone from Hell. That would probably suck and I might cry. Anyway I was thinking about the drugs and the questions kind of like a fight club type thing which the more you watch it the more you start seeing shit that really makes you think. then again this type of thinking t\could do us in. I like to wake up the dead or raise them up in this age, for these are the sign of the times... even eminem states such. Wake up before. Peace my brothers

What if i'm really dreaming right now, and i what I think are dreams are reality? I am, and they are, and thats what I understand. Everything really is in your head, but its like an instrument we use in life as we know it. Its not like you can excape it, drugs alter it but that perception is just as true, just out of focus. We can be blinded temporarily by the sun, what we see is truly what we see but we know that we are not able to see clearly.

The world doesn't make sense many times, but who dares to look to the truth, to observe and take note. Who will let the snow slide off the roof? How far does committment go? What if committment was made to soon and holding onto it will eventually distort everything.

As more time passes the animal in the cage becomes more obvious questionable and it becomes more difficult to look it in the eye, but ever so more needed. When your heart is hollow, its time to take some action. Look to whats been true over time in your life, then look deeper into thers.

I relate the song to Jesus Christ, and how so many Christians just are Christians but its like a caged animal they never really looked at closely. The Bible is deep as deep can get and looking at the Gospels in the eye is scary because it could bring down all that you believe and are.

Christ often spoke parables so we didn't have to look as deep or understand everything yet. He illustrated creating foundations so when a storm comes the structure stands. Thus your beliefs in Christ must have roots that go deep with understanding. Mostly we begin to understand things when they hold true or stand the test of time with practice in truth. Otherwise a slight wind never experienced before will put you in the cage or out of it ( depending on which side you think is right).

So give your atention in truth, whether you believe in Christ or not, to Christianity, religion, the United States, and other countries. Too me I have very much experienced the hesitation to look closely at things do to prior committment and biases, but doing so really did confuse me.

The roots that grew before held things together for me, and that has to do with the opportunity Christ gave us all (check the bible for the news), He offered forgiveness, hope, and most of all love. So its a choice we have to receive Christ as our living sacrifice and savior to be free of sin and hate. Its a choice, he loves you, do you receive it or reject it. It should show with everyone you meet.

Nine Inch Nails – Liar Lyrics 20 years ago
If he speaks of a whore (being his as he says "my precious whore") what does he pay her? His disease, his infection? Why would she want that and lay to indure his tainted touch? A whore, I guess may not be as in a hooker who gets a payment and cares not for the customer. I suppose the whore in this case could be naive and being a sex object used by him to get intouch with others vileness while she does not know his intentions. To him somehow she is beautiful, maybe because of what she is able to give him although it seems to be just solidifying his wretchedness. Nonetheless, he calls her a liar, maybe saying she knows of the evil and likes it. To me this seems like his way of justifing what he does to her, not revealing the intentions of the whore he apparently calls her a reptile, thus cold blooded. A reptile is what it is and knows not how to be other than a reptile. Maybe he calls her a liar because she has some realization of her nature (atleast to him) but holds to believe that she is not this reptile. So I guess it would be his word against hers. Maybe she has become a reptile (figuratively) by such abuse. Is this reptile a person? a group? a religion? political group? or maybe some part of himself? Maybe Trent could help me out here.

Is a song that only makes sense while on acid that way because it was created by people on acid? Does being on acid make certain songs good, entertaining or more meaningful because of some random intersection of obscurity? Does truth actually reveal itself when we are able to confuse our normaL sense of reality?

Is our normal sense of reality actually not true at all and drugs make us realize this? Do drugs as maybe music as well actually expand our consiousness thus revealing truth, although it may seem false because of our limited senses. Are there frequencies physically or mataphysically that we are unaware of? If there are such things hidden from our normal senses, is it good to try to reach them and subdue them?

Is becoming more human actually becoming less human? Is it good to be human? If its good to be human? Is it harmful to look for more, or is it more a compulsion, or maybe even a duty? Is it actually bad to be human? Do we dare to consider why infact we exist if it is not good? If its not good are we infact at war? Would there be a way to fight a war with an enemy that we can not take arms? Is selfdestruction our outlet to a war against the unknown? Is selfdestruction a compulsion of being human? IF selfdestruction is our nature why do we fight against it? Is every breath we take good or bad or is all good even what is bad because it is true?

Is consciousness to be sought after. Are we an enemy to nature? If we are the excrement of nature what could we possibly do to become its friend? If we are not nature's friend will there not be a price to pay? Then again are we the cream and sweetness of nature and if so why don't we run with it or do we although it appears otherwise?

Do you know there is atleast a God or Gods and if not then what security do we have in our existence. If we deny there is a God then does that make one an abomination or does it bring freedom? How does God reveal itself that we are to believe that we are good and pleasing to God?

Is fear of the unknown your God? If fear or imagination construes a God does that God exist or is it just a thought? If we think a God, and we think, does that infact reveal God? Do miracles reveal God's existence or just more to existence than we normally see? If God exists to you, is God perfect and Good? If God is not perfect or Good would it do good to be aware of this?

Is there really such a things as evil? If you are not aware of evil or being evil should you be condemned for it? If something is evil to you and you embrace it does it matter if nobody thnks it's such? If you are condemned for evil but don't believe it to be so would it be evil to change? Is evil and what is good and bad just a matter of social interaction and a result of being witnessed by others.

A tree that falls in the woods but nobody hears it does make a noise. Thus existence can BE without a witness to it.

Is existence only a matter of being physical? Is being human only a matter of being physical and being able to witness it. Does the fact that we witness ourselves bring only one substantial thing... pain? Could there be pleasure without pain? is being good having compassion for those in pain? Is having pleasure evi, considering its dependence on pain? Would pure love be taking full pain for anothers pleasure? Would pure evil be taking full and or everlasting pleasure letting pain exist elsewhere.

What if we can witness others pain without the ability to help? Is it not evil to not witness that pain for truths sake?
What if we cover anothers pain to out senses? Can we forget about it? Can we ever be free from or consciousness of that evil? Will fake ustification take away that evil?

Do we have a choice to live as a solitary being? If we do not have that choice why are we subject to being good, bad or evil? Do we have a choice at all? If we do have a choice in anything does that not make us opposed to nature, or atleast apart from it? If we never had a choice from the beginning at what point could we? If never having a choice by our unability to not exist are we not nature itself? Is pain the result of our existence beyond nature by reason of choice? Neither seems acceptable logically.

Therefore doesn't it seem God or that which is in control of nature and us is the only thing to make life understandable. Witnessing ourself without choice, are we responsible for anything? are we all as humans evil by nature itself?

Does pain depend on the existence of pleasure? Will our pain result then in someone elses pleasure or is it maybe stock for our own pleasure? Can we steal pleasure using someone elses pain? Does an existing God take on pain for our pleasure, whether it be now or later. Would this be the God of Love? Could we be the pain of nature existing for the God of plesure? Would this be the God of evil? Is there a cosmic food chain?

We do not know truth other than what we know. What we know is biased by what we hope. We have faith that what we don't know is good for us because we exist. We have faith that what we don't know, knowing that we don't everything is good because hope and fear. What I know is not truth as well.

Logic and answers seems to leave out God. Knowledge seems void of God. Logic makes conscousness more substantial. COnscousness makes pain more substantial.
Faith and hope desire for less pain and sufferring. Faith and hope desire God for the truth and for peace.

Love is really desire but its empty without movement. Unfullfilled love is pain. Increased love brings more strife or more pain. Fulfilled love completed turns two into one. Leaving hope eliminates strife and pain and becomes numb, consistent, and dull .

Eternity without change is the same on any level. Being bipolar is the basis for love and most dynamic, yet seemingly most painful. consistensy is uniform numbing for without need, and without pain, there is no desire and love seems impossible.

By definition heaven is very good and to be desired, so to the unkowing it seems to be most fullfilling. It is therefore to be desired and inturn means we lack it now. We have a need for it or realize that we will have a need for it. We move towards it then in whatever way we know how, and to the degree by how much we need or perceive a need for it.

Is obtaining heaven becoming one with God? Love seems to be the result of two apart with at least one having a need for the other resulting in desire. Hope is required for movement of ones desire to the other of the two. It would seem to depend on the need of the other for something that you have to give. To obtain that desired union one would need to give.

Would it not seem that God would need something from us to love us? If the need is praise, why is it a weekness of ours? If the need is adoration, would that not become stale? If the need is gory, would that not leave us disposable.

Our hope is that the need God would have is companionship and closeness. This would be something that we also need unless we are securely one alone. However, we can not be securely one alone because we witness to ourselves with consiousness. Thus companionship is desired where complete love as two can become one.

Experiencing complete love brings compassion from the knowledge of its splendor compared to being one. Lonliness is filled with pure love but may lack movemewnt from desire. Also wrong movement or lack of it as movement can leave love unfullfilled. Optimism can leed to loniliness through unfullfilled love with desire for oneness with another but never completed. Hope, on the otherhand is truthful and cant leave love unfullfilled, for it is open for the otherthat is desired to choose.

If we desire love itself as we all do from a lack of oneness with ourselves we seek companionship. With companionship we may experience complete love, and in essence pleasure with pain becomes joy. If we experience this union of love we understand a new thing and are now aware of the ability to be not alone. Now compassion is unexcapable and we have something to give to others who infact are alone.

Jesus Christ taught us this, in a better way but maybe one which has been confused by me and others. Without knowing the reward of completed love and how its compassion spreads, it can seem not worth the effort. Maybe its the hope that is lacking but Christ showed us that we should have hope. He showed us that he has hope in our love, giving us a choice. he was not optimistic, but truthful. He showed us even one union of perfection of love can grow beyond understanding. Although pain may be involved, joy and that love once complete is everlasting and giving.

Giving up, living without hope is hopelesss in itself. We can look back at Christ to see how compasssion has never ceased to exist from his one act of love in dying and forgiving us displaying a love never seen and absolute. With his faith and ressurrection he again gave us hope that God the father and creator loves us as well. To love thy enemy to its fullness gives us all an opportunity to receive his love or deny it. So here is really our choice that is real. You can't deny it. With the choices we have, we can turn our back on that love or embrace it.

If you do not believe in Christ atleast believe in what he does. Your alternative is hopeless, and week. I don't know the results of these choices but I there's truth in his choices or atleast truth in the choices he made that we know today.

The kingdom of God is among us let us believe and accept our actions made and realize that we have choices and Christ testifies to them. We all can make a difference, I accept in the Name Jesus his love and God's will trusting in God as love and loving. The opportunity is there for us all. There can't be love without truth and justice aswell. So if you believe in love look to the law of God and the example of Christ and choose to live in the light which darkness can not extringuish. The Good news is that the light is not limited and if you have life you have light in you. Do not hide it but put it on a lamp stand for all to see.

Afghan Whigs – When We Two Parted Lyrics 20 years ago
Once upon a time, I saw this as a theme song to my relatonship with my ex girl friend. She was un happy and in pain and was very silent about it, although the trouble within was clear and would manifest in ways that had nothing to do with the real problems.

The song was true to us but I was wrong with how I viewed it. It was her lonliness who was her partner who inflicted the pain and it was not I that cold comfort her, but it was the pain itself.

None the less the pattern remained and she would go to her partner bringing us into the night, and I would bring us out of the night taking away the thing that brought her comfort and it wasn't me.

anyway, the lyrics are not that oscure or layered it seems ut the suject matter is good. Actually, in a way I can realate it to "one". I believe its aout a kid "who knows what age" but he is so uncomfortale with people that he at some point locks all his feelings and pain inside himself thinking that he can take care of them himself. He grows up and doesn't realize what he is doing, still wanting love from others but he becomes a lie. Eventual ending is kind of grim, descriing him as "flooting in his room". His room is his outside visile self and he is all alone with just his own thoughts. Thats kind of why I think of "one"

well, thanks 7bo7benn7, thanks for the props, I sense sarcarsm though in which case it would be much desrved . I admit I write on these songs in vanity (.mostly ) but I just like to write because it helps me form opinions and their songs hit home for me so I feel the need to know what they mean. I have a bit of a problem with PRIDE myself, so 7 does have some signifigance, that and it is 1 of the numbers between 1 and 10..
Personally, I think Chevelle's lyrics are political as well. The fact is that nobody really knows but them and they might not be too sure either for all I know.. Politics and religion are tied together especially with the situations going on now. I myself am not that "deep" yet. I have been relating the music on the flat plane of a personal view, this is because I have had to focus on myself over the last year or so..

This song is ridiculous, I felt I must comment now because these lyrics blow me away. They don't appear that special at first but its flawless. I just sarted to link the metaphors and they are all without scrap or what I call "haze", meaning when you go from one realm to the other every aspect has a link to the other in the exact purpose meant. Nothing left lose without meaning only confusing and muddling the poem.

I will write bck when I have more time to fully look at this Gem.
I saw it though, I could see the picture painted but amazingly like a painting. So much detail, and attachment yet you see the whole thing and get it. I challenge those who think it means nothing to actually read it a couple times. Acid, hey whatever works!!!!

Mad Season – River of Deceit Lyrics 21 years ago
I do get that now that I recall that Gilbran had said "your pain is self chosen". I reread yor post and I can definately see the connection to "The Profit".

Like you basically said though, it was a reference and not a directive ; The song itself not being driven with the theme of the "The Profit", Gilbran. The influence however is clea,r to me, and even if Staley was never aware of Gilbran the conection is quite Germane.

Pretty good insight, Staley was a very intelligent man and extrmeley sensitive. He was mistreated and taken advantage of his whole life. Its so very sad, and the song is so humble and without any diversion of blame for his life,. Ther'es also no anger towards God as often shown in his lyrics and by other musicians. Acceptance and acountability....

The lyrics are really almost like a journal to the public, depicting how he has really become complacent with being a drug addict and dying young. He talks about choices but I think the real thing that he was feeling was that his options had been exhausted. He knew his fate, and the choice to be made was still his, Yet it was like he was now a helpless victom,. and the choice to continue to take drugs was understood and acceptable.

Actually, I went back and read all the posts here again, and the for-thought, and consideration given to this piece as poetic and prophetic is impressive. I supose his troubles were obvious , but still great deliberation.

"The river of Deceit" actually, in my opinion, is a fine work of art! Its delicate and definately has had an impact on the minds of those who took consideration to this song other than just viewing it as followers of Alice in Chains

Staley I think would have been happy to produce this song with its deeper menings, his own personal truth is ver much revealed here, and his wisdom is shown with this ediication.

I myself have been enlightened to the deeper integrity of this song of submission.

Nine Inch Nails – Eraser Lyrics 21 years ago
It,would be interesting to me if that were the case (TREXOR). If Reznor feels insignificant he is really the most sardonic human ever..The Downwardspiral is argueably in the top 5 most influetial albums of the 90s.

Now I can see forgotten maybe because it takes him a half decade to produce a freshalbum. He does seem to dkissapear. However Trent's unrelenting misery and comical mix of blasphemy and repeantance is luminary and definately unforgetable, He is one of the lights that will shine for decades, to the dismay of many.

Hey maybe he will come out with more low key, fear-driven l creations of the genius and insanity. Maybe something like Toad the wetsprocket.

Lets see if we can cheer Trent up a bit. Maybe we could beat him senseless then humiliate him back to cosciousness only to bleed him out near death. Thats what I think he needs some real physical torture and then maybe he wouldn't feel so guilty. But really he needs to get over himself..... he acts like him and God sits down at 3pm and plays chess ebvery day showing him over and over he is a worthless idiot.

Does Trent thimk hes the only person to experience "the Dark Night of th Soul"? To last 15 years, though thats something. I hate to say it but I believe his misery, his ego and pride won't let go. Thats it.....thats all youneed to do Trent, I really worryabout you if by some chance you everread this jargon. Theres a way out other than afixing a muzzle and pipe to your face terminally draining toilet water into your mouth, Man that was a horrible thing to see. Where does he come up with this creepy stuff?.

Anyway, Trent may be a bit of a bitch, all his lyrics seem to just be a repetitive cry for help. Thats really why I like the Becoming, it depicts almost everything NIN in this one song.. Its kind of like organizing a junk drawer and using all the good stuff.

This piece really depicts his anger, despair fear, and the always present touch of optimism as he lives with this inner enemy. I can actually relate to this type of thing. The song is actually quite litteral too, he is falling away inside, losing the real man (his essence, or his sou]] he himself.while his outer self of what we jknow as Trebt Reznor carries on. as usual.

Breaking the lies to yoursef, are the most emotional and painful....

FRIJOLITO TS ,'-6.....MS DOS IPOD FACSIMILI-

WHAT IN THE STEAMING CRAP ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? tHE COMMENT YOU MADE DOESN'T REALLY INDICATE THAT YOUR STONED, JUST THAT YOU DIDN'T REALLY READ WHAT ""'PLAS"" wrote....I personally don't know the song, i'm somewhat ignorant to music as the last 5 years have been much of a living hell!

Anyway PLAS, I agree and liked your take.. The more that can be expressed with the fewest of words is most striking and beautiful as well as an example of a real work of art.

To me that line "I will surprise you sometime, I'll come around, when your down"

that lyric is fantastic. I don't know if it relates but, I used be fucked up all the time and in pain, not there for my friends, but if someone I loved was hurting "down" I would then always be there and it would take my pain away somehow.

Thus, surprising them, when they are doing bad.by being their helping hand when they would have never expected it..

IT was nice to feel human again.....

What does the song mean for real? The writer's thoughts....Just curious if you might know his deal,
or if you just had an affinnity for the song for personal reasons.

Chevelle – Vitamin R (Leading Us Along) Lyrics 21 years ago
Ok UWGcowgirl,

(once again,"I SAY" to have thoughts and opinions on Christianity does not make you Christian.)

Lets beat this horse dead, kick it twice, and ressurrect it.....

They may be of the Christian religion....I wouldn't be surprised, because I too know the lyrics and the songs. Infact I have become strangly part of them, or them part of me...something.just isn't right...

Alll I know is the music plays all day and sometimes at night in my consciouss, and differrent lyrics and songs start to play at appropriate times to deal with whatever situatuation, or some dude i'm talking to, or a problem I need to solve . .Really MutHuD..UP

I am Catholic and I don't say things like I'm super duper religious or anything like that, but I know my faith, I love my faith, it means everything to me, its just important as it should be for all...it is merely truth revealed.

Anyway. The lyrics are spiritual, and deal with God and Christanity, Devil, truth, sin, lies, hell, etc..etc..but they are definately not a Christian Band. There ideas and faith have questions, doubts, anger, rejection, yet hope, grace, love.

So my point is, they are a band that writes lyrics and sings songs about issues of God very often. Many bands do the same thing. Nirvana , wrote many subtle songs about and to God....

These songs are mostly spiritual....and issues hes having with life and truth. Infact the terms of Jesus, the Messiah, and Christ are never once mentioned in any one Chevelle song.

I apologies if you were just saying they were Christion believers which could be true, but I know the band and WOW, Christian Label, 10,000 nerds sayings so would not make me believe they are a CHRISTIAN BAND.

Thank you....please consider definition

^(unidentified)^......
I get your point, and I think they are Christians, Sam has a cross on in a video, and personally because i listen to the music for an embarrassing amount of time, think so as well.

BUt I don't know for sure. I don't want to spoil it. I know they lie about the song meanings, that I can promiss, rather sinful isn't it....

Funny thing about it is that a very large number of the posters here are absolutely certain, Chevelle is a Christian Band, and another large group is positive they are not.

This is just wonderful stuff!!!

Oh, and i'm leaving you out of this (unidentified) -you just wanted to know if they were Christians right? understandible. Thats a legitimate question, and it can probably be answered by asking them if they are Christian. .

Why can't anybody seem to uderstand that you can be Christian, play with other Cristian band members write lyrics that are very spiritual and even mention God and still **NOT** be a Christian band?

But still, the debate looms, "Is Chevelle a Christaian Band?"

Chevelle – The Clincher Lyrics 21 years ago
the way the lyrics don't make specific reference to things, instead using things like" it, you ,him , this and that" give the music its life. When you here the songs, a second, and third time they start to have meaning. It may be wrong or personal, but the point is that the listener ends up finishing the lyrics. Eventually, when you get to know the songs complete piece, and also the other albums, the lyrics really begin to take shape. You can definately see some things he stands for, although admittidly many are a bit unclear. Nevertheless, I still grt a good impression of the songs essence.

Obviously, I'm a bit of a fan, but I Ireally just like ever aspect of the music. I have never had that before.

APOLOGIES!!!!!!

I saw "some what damaged" mentioned in the previous enty and thought that it was being related to this song and the opinion of it being about police and their ways. I didn't notice it wa refering to the author of a previous entry.

Nonetheless my comments are still applicable, but take no offense to my previous view of you relating the song "somewhat Damaged" to police brutality asswell. That would definately be absurd.....

I was somewhat damage when I saw my mistake

Nine Inch Nails – March of the Pigs Lyrics 21 years ago
Somewhat Damaged is probably my favorite NIN tune, but I don't get the police motif. I don't recall Trent ever having a run in with the law, atleast publically, and to my knowledge has never been to jail.

Besides, even if he has a problem with the police why would he write and perform songs about it. Its like writing songs about bad service at TGI fridays. Have you sensed the emotion and utter despair in this music of pain?

Yes the police have a place in most of our hearts that makes us cringe. The type of people who become officers are typically insecure, needy, mommy's boys who were bullied their whole life and couldn't find an ounce of creativity to find a job with any meaning.

These are mostly stereotypes but its hard to think differently after watching the show cops, which actualy seems more like s Saturday Night Live skit. I also now first hand how cops act. They lie, manipulate, abuse, pretend to care, are unjust, operate comppletely by stereotyping, give bad advice, look mainly to avoid paperwork, make fun of you, show no empathy, then go on their way forgetting about the arrested forever.

They are the elite, all knowing, who take offense to any normal human reaction and seem to think that they can do whatever they please. I could go on about how pointless their job is and how their real purpose is not even considered, but I have allready wasted enough blabber on another atrocity of life. Trent would devote much less energy himself. We cant change these things driven by pure human pretense and avoidance of that which makes us uncomfotrable.

The point is this is not going to change, and there is no point bitching about it because it is not personal. Why would Trent screem, bitch, and show complete rage over this societal poo that has been a reality since the time of Christ? Theres no point and besides that, he pretty much writes about himself not issues. Can you see Trent writing a song about gays in the military, global warming, or home schooling? OK, those things are a little more impersonal but police abusiveness is a step in that direction,

Somewhat Damaged is a sarcastic title refering to himself. He is fucked up....its like he is saying, yea you could say i'm somewhat damaged.

"Its funny how you would say we'd make it through"
-------Is this his friend the cop, trying to get him through the academy?

"everything you swore would never change is different now"
-----------Is this when the cop told him he would be happy if he joined the force, but Trent because sad and quits
"all alone by myself, where the fuck where you?"
-----maybe Trent was beat by some school kids left on the street and he is really bitter that there are not any police to help him

Yes police are Trents hurt

Chevelle – The Clincher Lyrics 21 years ago
PLAS commenton Pinion7-

Well, you are right Chevelle is similar to Tool, Helmet, in some aspects, but they are also similar to the Beatles, the Pixies, Nirvana, Iincubus, and many more. Good bands for the most part borrow from other good bands. This is obvious and not stealing, simply because good bands play stuff that is good. Naturally appreciating whats good material, makes someone share qualities and use things of the talented people who make things that are good. You wont see Godsmack listening to hanson or Culture club.

Maynard is "i'm, mr wierd, nonconformist, activist guy, but really he's is just insecure and doesn't like to shower (my narrow-minded opinion). I do like the music, its TRULY ORIGINAL, I must say!!! Thats saying alot, and in itself makes a band great. Maynard with Tool and a Perfect Circle has opened the post-modern age of music up to another dimension. I'm all for this advancement of the art. I don't like bands that become like Elvis impersonaters who just produce different crap of the same qualities. This is what I presume you believe Chevelle to be. ( Tool and Helmit clones).

I might be overreacting due to my amazement for Chevelle and the way they stand far above others to me. I don't understand this love myself. I also am not of the like to act so boldly ignorant to think no one else gets it, while claiming possecssion of a the band like no one else has the right to listen to them. You know the type.... the ones who are always talking about how they were the first to like them, knowing them back when they played little league. They get angry at their favorite underground bands new found popularity. Its like they think they are the only ones who know good music, and ithey use obscure bands too act as if they are somehow true music lovers. They act like the band was made for them, going so far as to abandon them because they get played on the radio, God forbid. You see many on this web sitet just prowling for people to bash because some Jackoff thinks a song is about the love of home furnishing or their pet beagle snoopy..

Chevelle and all bands are always products of the times. The past, unless someone band has amnesia, is with them and it naturally manifests in their music. Such is the same with technology, fasion, religion, ans even fucking.

We also apreciate music in the same way, by comparison to the rest. Hense, we are having this discussion. Even the 80s served a purpose of what not to do, unfortunatelly we are seeing a bit of the same with the so called alternative rock that all seems to be in the mold of Creed. It does seem like they manufacture pieces of themesleves because it is just commercial and not artistic, leeching of other bands formula, Post-modern big hair love ballads.
My over glorification of the band Chevelle is somewahat a cry for mommy. It has much to due with the way the music has evolved and attached to my life as if its actually something inside of me. My world is my experiences. My essences is largely my emotions and feelings usually wiith the ego-centered search for identy and sense of purpose for my unexccapable existense. The motif here is loneliness when you get to the root of it all. You and I alike, are trapped in a body with consciousness but don't know the fuck why. Chevelle has become the soundtrack to my pain and somehow breached the gap of solitude. Its been very supernatural too me, and has been apart of my own metamorhosis.... so its just very personal.

I don't think they are everything I make them out to be, and if there were to be a ranking of bands under most specifics, Tool would win out, especially for the masses. For me, a ranking of bands is not an option anymore, because Chevelle is no longer in that group as just a band. I love NIN. I followed them after Trents first piano recital. I still love them and I think the Fragile is a master piece. I just love that band and many others, but their essence is not a part of me. He scares me quite frankly, I feel like someone should put him out of his misery....poor angry bastard.

I appreciate music fans on the whole. I preach Chevelle to others like I am doing now because I want to share a piece of what God has given me. I truly believe that no one can see them like I do. I like there increase in popularity because I empathize for their labors and commitment to not giving in to the commercial pressures or the lure to the fast dollar. I know thay are not about that, but I also know the battle one egages for what they love, is the soul. it makes me happy to see them achieve the dream and be able to live the life of greatness. The underdog standing in glory is beauty manefested and the reward should not be shunned.

So I do take offense to your comment, although given with much more insight than i'm used to. So I appreciate the consideration, which is the way to truth and change. Any Tool lovers out there, or Pinion7 haters for that matter, I truly welcome your knid or death driven considerations. Critisizm or crusifiction is the best path to enlightenment and your cutting thoughts or narrowminded suggestions are one way to make me feel alive. So lets live and argue, what else is there to do in vanity.

By the way, the commercial success of "Wonder whats next", I do believe has changed Chevelle a bit. Atleast their music is different which is generally good. Nobody wants the same thing over again, we look forward to something new and more beatiful. However This type of thinking could do us in took a step back in my opinion, both lyrically and in the quality of music. The songs are a bit more dry and solid in that thay lack substance in depth. The pure hard songs seem to lack the lulls in mood to draw out the edge. The other songs like "To return, Bend the Bracket, and Panic prone" seem too smooth and on point, leaving them simple and un original.

Regardless, they still rule. I just hope they try more not try more and not embrace perfection in the future. Their best stuff let the songs speak in their flaws which give them their subtle flavoring.

Chevelle – The Clincher Lyrics 21 years ago
OK everyone, I know most of you are young and also somewhat new to Chevelle. I give props to anymone who digs this music because they are quite frankly the best rock band out there. Their lack of fullfilled comercial succes comes from there lack of marketting or care for it. Their focus sems to be totally on life and they are just a band. Chevelle is so without goal, its beautiful and it lets the music live as their presence.

I have not seen them live yet but I imagine it to be more like a gathering, rocking out, and not the pretense of lets give the fans what they need, while the heads of cash suckers look to empty your pockets..

They are and exression of this lost age of ours raised in lies by dead money slaves. They are simply living and doing what is them entirely without concern for image or reviews. They play trying to live up to nothing and go to extremes to infact be low key.

Every interview when asked what a song is about, you will get some dome assed story and you can comletely sense they speak like the lyrics are just some BS over an incident. You see them here monootone and a bit sarcastic. This is their control over "band leaching". Many bands who become obvious, get minimized into a nice a category fit for media and minds to exploit then throw away.

Besides their material is almost on an indescrible level. Speaking on it themselves reduces it and kills it. My point is they are lying or atleast just give a superficial answer so powerless that it leaves their art alone. Sit down with them as a friend and I know you will get so much more and understand why they do this. Seriouslly look at to the song "the Clincher" and try to reduce these powerfulwords to some pathetic incident that happens all the time with guys who do shit just to do shit. Seriously does it seem likely one of them is so distraught about being locked in box for a bit, that the blast out a song and call it "the clincher".

To have something be a clincher it is something that finallizes a deep struggle. So tell me please how that could possibly relate.

Chevelle come on now, i'm onto your shanantics.

The new age MTV, MP3, CD mixing culture leaves these songs naked.

Its a bit of shame because Every Chevelle song is absolutely amazing. These albums need to be listened to as whole to manifest their full greatness. I promise you will find that the more you are into each track and also know each album the more each individual song grows. The start to become infused in your heart and mind until they are with you all day. This just happenned to me without strife . I was a huge Korn, NIN, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, God Smac, Incubus and Alice in Chains fan, but now when I listen to them all I want to do is put in Chevelle.

These songs evolve and you start to pick up on his style of lyrics, emotional connections, and the bands overall presence of mystery, and obscurity. You cant appreciate and trylu experiece any song as a single piece of entertainment . They remind me much of the Beatles where the music first settles into your heart then opens up the subconscious which feeds the black holes in your mind. Then the lyrcs themself become secondary and hold little definition but imstead flow with purity. The songs littery become alive and are just part of the whole picture, the band members, all their tracks, the fans, and all the way to the individual.

Nine Inch Nails – March of the Pigs Lyrics 21 years ago
I tell you there is absolutely no way this about Dahmer, real animals, Sharon Tates belly or bad barbeque.

This song is clearly about something that enrages Trent. I think its something very personal and everyday for him. He has to let the rage go because he has to function, but it builds up and he blows. The song song is like an explosion then there is the erie quiet afterwards.

My first thoughts just now when I reconsidered this song were that it might be about scripture. Christ comes across a man with evil spirits and they emediately know he is the Christ and beg not to make them go into the pigs. The spirits then flee into them on their own and jump off the cliff.

Mindless insanity has a great feel for it if you look at it this way. Like most if not all the songs on the Downward Spiral are about psychological and spiritual war all in his head. It really seems like his consciusness has become his enemy because it seems unrelenting. Also Trent seems to be on two different sides often, and I believe he is even confused about who is who, and what is what up in there. I Forget the song, I think its :"I do not want this" he says "i've lived so many lives up in my head" showing this affliction.

Christianity is about "truth" and Christ being incarnate God is also truth because God is the ultimate, what is, and completely perfect of all. Lies and false beliefs are opposed to Godn. When someone is trying to adhere to truth it starts to break down the psyche which is almost completely a formation of an ocean of stereotypes. Pride is a lie or false belief about oneself and if this exists it makes everything a lie.

With all that in mind, I relate the biblical pigs as ones beliefs and convictions. Christ brings truth forces away lies and reveals oneself. I think its like Trent sees truth and can not avoid constantly checking his own convictions.

I want to break it up ....I want to smash it up.... I want to fuck it up....I want to watch it come down....maybe i'm afraid of it... lets discredit it...lets pick away at it.. I want to watch it comed down.

I presume this is this neurotic scoping of his own beliefs about himself and his own actions. When he completes tearing down the false beliefs then the pigs are all lined up. His consiouss can then "take the skin and peel it back" or take a look inside. His sarcastic tone when he says "now doesn't it make you feel better?' is given because he is really not fealing better at all. Now he is left with less of a sense of self and what is really true seems farther away.

"Dont open your eyes, you wont like what you see
the devils of truth steal the souls of the free."

yes blades is very right. ADHD is an awful condition and instead of sympathy the afflicted get chastized. Take drugs for fun or whatever... its anyones choice and then they have to accept the consequences but be careful not to speak out for everyone because something didn't work for you.

Nine Inch Nails – The Day the World Went Away Lyrics 21 years ago
Trent is expressing a complete lack of optimism about ever being happy. Its also, like many of his songs reveals a terror of being trapped alone in himself and the fear of disappearing completely. The real significance of this song as opposed to a song like "The Becoming" is a turn from angst to hoplessness.

He is also speaking as his shell, the Trent that is outside visible to the world. Its like this Trent and the Trent hidden inside have almost completely separated. His shell-self can speak unemotional about how the Trent inside is still there but in decay, cold and gray.

Finally He expreses that the hidden Trent is unfortunately still there, but holds onto a place that still remains, (the Shell-Trent). It appears this link to the outside is a place to hide to takie the fear and pain away. However this is a peculiar condition of hiding outside oneself instead of hiding inside.

Its a little twisted and seems like the Shell man is ready to do away with Trent completely leaving him completely locked alone inside.

The sweetest price he'll have to pay
the day the whole world went away

So the day is fortold to come when Trent will pay the sweetest price by losing his one source of peace. The day the whole world goes away really leaves him in Hell and no one to bitch to anymore.

Depeche Mode – A Question Of Time Lyrics 21 years ago
By the lyrics one can then say what it is a question of time here. So it is will the dogs get to this innocent youthful girl or will he "the writer". Mr deathrock I think makes a good point about the writer and his intentions. It draws back to the psychology of the Ego and ones ability to judge others harshly for things that he would normally do himself. I think the song has a sarcastic tone as if he is sayiny, yes i'm a hypocrite but thats just the way it is.

Chevelle – The Clincher Lyrics 21 years ago
If you know Chevelle's songs and lyrics, most of them are about "someone's" spiritual or psychological journey. whatever you call it, its introverted symbolic thought about feelings, emotions, and consciousness. This song is the same. Christian or not, its spiritual. I don't even care what the band says. I'm sure they make shit up to keep privacy and hide mystery. This music is way to emotional for stupid he did she did stuff.

Song-
It seems he has come to a dead end in the journey
"this catacomb has got me by the chin"
He decides he wont keep making things worse even if he stays where he is.
"i'll stand for nothing less or never stand again"
He didn't know that he was endangering his soul
"could we have Known, never..."
giving up, he can now stop taking blame
"nothing to gain...this should be you"
He walks away calling for the relief from letting go
"now saturate"

Chevelle – An Evening with El Diablo Lyrics 21 years ago
My personal treatment,
"high up on you, you display good traits though few", he is talking to himself. He is fighting with his own pride and it keeps holding him down from truth and growth
Pride is a lie about yourself
Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride
Pride and all sin and lies are Satan or his influence
It seems he was drawn into something that he thought was good and then later realized it was diabolical
"till the shadows began to crawl"
I would guess "too scared to run" is saying that he is staying still and leaving the situatuation or changing himself because it will bring much trial, loss and uncertainty

Whether he is literally talking about Satan or not matters little for he is sin
