| 'that they mean to protect me' i dont mean me as in myself. i was referring to the song, the persona asking to someone to protect them. or whatever. anyway yeah... | |

although i wonder if the video for it was a little over unnecessary in its content. i can understand that they mean to protect me from the degradation and submissive state of surrender one may have some sort of primal desire for, but... perhaps it was a little crudely done. but then. it's good in that: it shows something in a light that is not beautiful. (still to decide) |

she's got vacuum cleaner eyes suck you in. for me: all the irrationalities and desperate raw needs she creates for herself in her imagination. she wears her tears on her blouse... she stole the keys to my house and then she locked herself out. she's doing it all to herself, but she can't help it. (vicious cycles?) |

well...i came to this site because i was interested to see how other people were interpreting the song, because i wasn't sure whether the intention of the artist should or would affect what the song means to me. perhaps there's a little incongruity as to the importance or relevance of whether one should see this 'love' as in reference to God or a more romantic relationship. after a little thought, i think that it is perhaps irrelevant. love, or any other equally 'mysterious' emotion which we may like to call 'love' is something ever present in everyone's lives, regardless if it is for a faith in God or for someone (you think is.?) important in your life, it is something which each individual has to deal with, come to terms with. im not christian, and i dont believe in love, but i find comfort in a lot of switchfoot's music. perhaps it is just an innate need of humans... (and something about the mystery of music) ~ |

(she is beautiful, but she don't mean a thing to me) is that how love is doomed to be? this futile chasing of beauty mistaken for meaning but lost in a second. these illusions, the touch of your skin and carving a jigsaw fit, it doesn't mean a thing because it will always be the mind turning things around to create empty beauty to love and fill the void of ennui, but it shatters under scrutiny, when they try to get closer, try to breathe it into reality, it dissipates and disappears each time. should we: stay under the dome of imagination, never try to merge it with reality. |
