THANK YOU. I've listened to this song countless times, but somehow could never make out a lot of those lines... The problem with the Spanish parts is that Nick Urata has a tendency to get, er, a bit creative with the pronunciations. The original version of "Curse Your Little Heart" is all kinds of incorrect. But that doesn't stop me from loving it. Anyway, "sobreviviendo" would be one word ("surviving"). And elsewhere on the net, I've seen this, though I have no idea how accurate it is: Sobreviviendo Si sangre mi cuerpo Eramos risuenos Somos los temibles ... Sobreviviendo Si sangre mi cuerpo Ese amor doloroso Somos los temibles Personally, I don't hear the "temibles." Any more ideas...? |

The liner notes for "Ghana" also address this pressing issue: "I blush with shame every time I hear it: the liberties this lyric takes with matters of historical record are inexcusable. The Picts painted their bodies blue, not the Anglo-Saxons. The Romans, visiting England with a view to expanding the empire, took note of this unusual practice. Centuries later, a singer in California would note that 'Yeah, the Picts!' didn't have the same ring to it as 'Yeah, the Anglo-Saxons!' One hopes, perhaps vainly, that the 'all you'd get/alphabet' rhyme offsets the glaring inaccuracies at play here." Gotta love the Mountain Goats. :) The liner notes are almost as entertaining as the album itself. |

I think the second line is actually: An ancient rite of passage on the shithouse door And the repeated section isn't "Did I drink you down" but "Did I drag you down." |

What's the Hamlet reference? The one I picked up on was "she's the kind of girl who gets her slings and arrows from the dumpster." It's a reference to Hamlet's "to be or not to be" soliloquy, which refers to "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune," describing unfortunate things that happen to you. The line in the song makes me think of a girl who's sort of a bottom-feeder, not very classy... even her problems come from the dumpster. Any more? |

Love this song. It's obviously about different priorities women and men have in relationships. Here's a line I don't quite get: that's the way Aristophanes and Homer wrote the Iliad and Lysistrata Does this have some deeper meaning, beyond just being another example of how life has been like this since the time of the ancient Greeks? |

So, I know only rudimentary French. Any help on the general idea of this song? I've got the refrain: Who will bring back Mme Oscar? It is too late Mme Oscar! |

Hahaha, Gadget... Malfoy... oooh, I see Draco in leather pants, Harry singing... bahhh, you've put that in my head, and now I won't be able to get it out. You made my day. And, wow, this song sure draws a lot of controversy. To all the homophobes out there whining about how it's like soooo wrong!!!1, please. Build a bridge and prance on over it. As a straight female, I think this song is pretty hot myself. :) |

| Ben Folds – Rockin' The Suburbs Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Haha, I love this song: a nice satire, sending up all the kids whining about how their lives suck, not realizing how trivial their problems are. Ironically, v. popular among the male middle-class teenagers in my suburb, many of whom are not aware that the song is making fun of them. :) Btw, is anyone reminded of "Underground," an older BFF song? You know, instead of finding their place underground, the poor, oppressed white kids in this song act out by making terrible music and "cussing on the mike." | |
