I'd say this was Lazarus II, because just as Lazarus is a message from a Mother to her dead son, this seems to be the other way around, taken from the perspective of the son. To me it also hints at rebirth with the line "hold me inside you" As a final note after about 19 seconds you hear a female voice whisper "David", its very quiet so you'll turn up your sound a bit. |

| Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
The band actually think this song is very boring (and with their exceptionally high standard of songs i am inclined to agree to an extent) but this song is better interpreted if you actually watch the wall (as most of you will know) I agree with the wall being his shield from society, and it is like adulthood is some "indoctrination process" (as rocktheearth put it) where you are put in a meatgrinder from a young age and "shaped" this doesnt work for everyone and it builds till you have a neo facist or communitst dictatorship, and so perhaps evil is created by a flawed society as opposed to being born. Perhaps Pink is a rockstar because he thought it a way of "escapism" from adult life, this could then be related to Pink Floyd themselves as well as every musician ever. Perhaps pink going mad in the end is a reference to syd barrett, to say no matter how hard you try to escape from society (through music or having a shield) you might find yourself never escaping it. Also the children have to rebuild the wall in the end of the film. so it is our children that ultimately pay for our mistakes and pick up the pieces. But then if we were to go into depth the wall could be thought of in classes or layers (the people lower down holding up those higher up such is life) so perhaps he's hiding IN the wall rather than using it as his shield, but then seeing as he's a rockstar its hard to hide and so he breaks down. - this theory seems less likely though |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight, Tonight Lyrics | 21 years ago |

thats a very very good way to look at it. just a comment on "were not the same were different tonight" Perhaps its to do with each persons love being personal and different to every person (people feel and show love in different ways), with the rest of the time people being "the same" So perhaps he's trying to say love is the only true variety of life, and so the only thing that matters But besides what i'm rambling about i think thats one of the most in depth and unique interpretation of Tonight Tonight i've seen n1 lizzybelle |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Appels + Oranjes Lyrics | 21 years ago |

The first SP song i heard and one that will always have a special place... The way i see it, he's challenging everything. What if the sun didnt shine? What if there was no rain? I think he sees the world like its "living too easily" and depending too much on things taken for granted (like the sun and rain). What if what is isn't true what are you going to do? Its like he's assuming we would react if we found out we'd been living a lie. Its like the world is defining who we are as opposed to us defining ourselves (which is how we rightfully should). An irony in itself because if we were living by other peoples rules and not living how we want to live isn't that the same as living a lie? Very clever of billy if this is what it means. Its almost and extension of how i think he thinks of love (ie. why do people suppress and deny their own thoughts and feelings of love). People are being told how to live and how to love, perhaps this is his way of expressing such thoughts (albeit ambiguously). Sry if it sounds confusing but it makes sense to me :) |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
A mellow melody then "I really dont want to look stupid when i sleep..." Then later on "The aeroplane flies high... turns left looks right" Then one hell of a sound, absolutely awe inspiring. Most probably my favourite SP track one of the best songs of all time. I'm gonna borrow Frank N. Furter's idea but take it further. If you turn left then look right you would be looking straight ahead to where you would have been going had you not turned left (Say you turned 90 degrees). This made me think perhaps love taking people off their lifes path and bringing them along a tangent. Like making sacrifices for people you love. You think about it for a while (look right) but keep on going in the direction your travelling. Love is a sentimental heart, life is a sentimental way. Perhaps he's describing love and life as human's instinct. Which seems valid enough. Spy the fragile heart so cursed. as he walks across this earth. -> those that don't have love or arent very good in love are forever cursed. And walk the earth looking for love. I'm disconnected by your smile -> i think of it as someone smiling and you being disconnected from the world in a good way. Everything else around you switches off and you only think and see the person smiling at you. (of course its someone who loves you). Well i'll leave it at that for now, i only listen to the song on rare occasions and it gives me the fuzzies every time. Sheer genius is all i can say about billy corgan both sonically and lyrically |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Stand Inside Your Love Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I dont know if other people noticed but in the video doesnt it suddenly go into colour in the scene where he kisses her on her foot. And then back into black and white? (I just suddenly noticed this watching it one day) -> true love being the worlds colour, black and white being the everyday world with people supressing and lacking being in love. And why do people supress being in love? because of other people? perhaps this has something to do with billy saying about its "darkness" that its an everyday problem. (along with people rejecting it). Perhaps this is questioning the thoughts and actions of everyone in the world relating to love. Still its powerfully sung, sung with heart and soul, strangely inspiring yet saddening at the same time... |
