Half-Light Lyrics
Such a pale light
Such a long night
Pick up that key
Don't drop your gaze in your coffee
Is it me?
Do I look beautiful in the half light?
It's been so long
Years have gone
Since I belonged
Hold me please
Stay with me
And I will sleep
I will go now
But I will be with you
Hold my gaze
Hold me inside you
It's been so long
Years have gone
Since I belonged
Hold me please
Stay with me
And I will sleep
Such a long night
Pick up that key
Don't drop your gaze in your coffee
Is it me?
Do I look beautiful in the half light?
Years have gone
Since I belonged
Hold me please
Stay with me
And I will sleep
But I will be with you
Hold my gaze
Hold me inside you
Years have gone
Since I belonged
Hold me please
Stay with me
And I will sleep

Aside from what it means to the Deadwing story... This song is BEAUTIFUL. I'm not one to get really moved by music but this did it.
I'd say this was Lazarus II, because just as Lazarus is a message from a Mother to her dead son, this seems to be the other way around, taken from the perspective of the son. To me it also hints at rebirth with the line "hold me inside you"
As a final note after about 19 seconds you hear a female voice whisper "David", its very quiet so you'll turn up your sound a bit.
Hmmmm..True.Anyways great song.
David was the name of the guy who the album/story is based around, if you read the screenplay on www.myspace.com/deadwing. For those of you who have, you'll understand this a whole lot better.
I see this as Elizabeth (The female character) singing to David. Now I leave you to draw your own conclusions.
I'm a huge PT fan and love all their work, but somehow this quiet little gem is the one song my mind goes back to over and over, so i guess its my fav PT song. ITs so beautiful and melancholy, and I know that the song is about the David in the deadwing story but its hard to keep myself detached from hearing my own name in the first few seconds of the song, it sometimes creeps me out but sometimes makes the song more personal
even if you dont know the story behind the lyrics, this song touches. i get a sense of home. returning home. not to your house or whatever. but home. coming back to yourself.
Oh man, this song is absolutely beautiful.
Maybe not the best song of PT but for me it's the most beautiful.
As already said, this song is just incredibly emotional and amazing. It is so melancholy and encompasses so many feelings. I think everyone can relate to it in their own way. To me, it's a bit like finally finding belonging, a home, after wanting it for so long. Finally finding peace, rest, love? The character wants to belong to someone, and that's how I relate to it. I also believe that to a certain extent there are possible undertones of death to this song.
This person, either mother or son (I am not familiar with the Deadwing screenplay), is dead. He/she has been hanging around in the "half light" (between "the light" or, as some people say Heaven, and life on Earth) and is ready to make the full step into the light. But before doing so, he/she is contacting the other to say goodbye and to remember me this way.
Quite beautiful, moving and definitely on of PT's best!
