i'm not sure why, but song titles are menetioned in this song, i.e. "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" and "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" [which is a Bob Dylan song]. maybe these were songs the band liked or something. |

i think the line "i saw my best friend tonight / so don't push me too far" is most likely a reference to either heroin or alcohol in that he's intoxicated from his 'best friend' and if anyone tries to mess with him it could get out of control. |

"I get my whiskey from a well," a well being a bar.
"except on holidays, then it's the top shelf," means from his 'stash.'
"Tonight I don't mind if we spend a little more" on liquor
"'cause you're a tolerant woman" it's harder for her to get drunk because she drinks so much, tolerance
"and the world is at war." their excuse. |

| Joni Mitchell – A Case Of You Lyrics
|
"I am as constant as the northern star" is a quotation from Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar. Caesar says it, and it shows how egotistical and conceited he is. Maybe whomever is being talked about in this song is the same way.
Either way, this song is beautiful, and Joni is great. |
