Deftones – 976-EVIL Lyrics 15 years ago
Maybe the Deftones watched 976-EVIL when they were younger and are reminiscing. Anyways, this song is about Chi (imo). I agree with everyone on the first verse. This is truly an amazing song and a SICK album. I'm so glad they decided to rework something different with Sergio instead of releasing tracks from what was to be Eros. This stuff is seriously enough to hold me over for a couple years (even though I hear Eros will be released within that time frame). I hope that Chi eventually recovers. Deftones rock!

Well actually Phobia has 'You Fight Me' which is electronic/slow. I think Dear Agony and Give Me A Sign are two of the slower songs on this album and they are both pretty good.

To me, this song is an open letter to the feeling of agony. Self-explanatory.

Pastachickennugget, you don't call people faggots, but you DO call them a MORON without knowing what the hell you're talking about. I think it's pretty evident who the real moron is.

Breaking Benjamin – I Will Not Bow Lyrics 16 years ago
I gotta say that this song is not my favorite BB song, nor is it my favorite on the album, but it's still decent. I'm just not too big a fan of the new album yet - I don't think Phobia can be beat. The shitty thing about the new album is that some of the songs sound VERY similar and/or have the same progression.

Isn't the lyric "If we were on the roof again I'd give my soul to save your life" instead of "If we were all marooned again"? This song owns.

Shut the hell up Xero77x, this song is fucking awesome. The lyrics are great and the music is amazing... I'm pretty sure it's about cute machines, but I'm not 100% sure.

Scars On Broadway – 3005 Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe the correct lyrics are "I'll be in my SPACESHIP, still alive..." considering you can't be in a 'special'... wtf is that!? lol. Anyway, great song...I was listening to it earlier thinking about how we could technically be around in 3005 as ghosts shooting up the world and watching resurrection junkies lose ground...anything is possible.

Scars On Broadway – World Long Gone Lyrics 17 years ago
It seems to me that this song is about people are get fucked up all the time because they want to forget all the problems in the world - people who don't want to deal with life. He doesn't "know how many people are starving," but it doesn't matter because in his mind, the world is "long gone".

Looking at the sky, faded and 'reading the stars' seems like references to being fucked up on drugs... same thing with 'going crazy'. That's pretty much every word in the song explained... oh yeah and it takes 'patience' too. Good song, good album.

Actually, it says 'Thank God" not "the" God, but anyway, this is a great track. I agree they should put another 30 "thank God"'s at the end

Serj Tankian – Elect The Dead Lyrics 18 years ago
I wanted to post another comment on the title, "Elect the Dead". I interpret this title as meaning we humans usually elect the leaders that we think will make the best decisions. Well, if you believe in the spirits of those who have crossed to the otherside (if there is a side to cross), then 'electing the dead' to show us the right way to progress would be the greatest thing we could do. All humans are different in size, race, the ways they think, etc. The only thing we really ALL share is our birth, existence, and death. Since we can't control the fact that we were all born and all exist, we all have to go through the process of dying and we will all be dead one day. Many people forget this fact, and fear death when it is brought up, but it seems like this song is about coping with realizing our own mortalities. On top of that, there are many issues in the world today where humans put harm upon other humans and creatures (abuse, global warming, wars, murder, etc.). I think because in the end, we all hate people for making us think about our own mortalities - we try to block the fact out of our minds, but if we were able to speak to the otherside, we would be better off. If we even had ANY definite answer that there was an afterlife or anything like that, we wouldn't have any good reason to fear death, and that's why we should elect the dead!

I don't know if that made sense, but I tried!

Serj Tankian – Elect The Dead Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a tough one to interpret for me, but the tone definitely changes when he says "death we know...etc" because of the keyboard chimes in the background and he switches from "me" to "you". Here's my take on that: the song starts out with "arms raised" and "you are there" meaning the speaker has a significant other but he doesn't think about her as being important. The speaker contrasts his own 'self-endearment' with the things he mentions, like achievement, having a significant other, and love. Then the song switches into a more dream-like tone with more intensity from the bells/chimes. At the end the speaker starts talking about 'death' which 'comes to all of us alive,' leading me to believe that the speaker loses a significant other and this event makes him realize his own mortality. I think the speaker is going through the process of becoming aware of the process of dying after he loses someone close to him and the person he loses would otherwise be there to console him and tell him that it's okay because "death comes to all of us alive". The speaker understands the concept, but wishes he could have been more aware of the significance of life, whatever that may be.

Kinda confusing, but maybe you'll see what's going through my mind!

Interpol – The Lighthouse Lyrics 18 years ago
The most amazing part of this song is the fact that the guitar effects seem to represent the sound of an ocean waves washing ashore and being pulled back again by the tide. I also love how it builds up at the end, perfect climax to the album.

Fair to Midland – Tall Tales Taste like Sour Grapes Lyrics 18 years ago
Um, you should try listening to the song instead of just 'being the first to post on it' because no one here is going to give you a cookie or anything like that. LoL, anyways, this song is amazing. In my opinion, this song is about humanity accepting things for what they are without fighting for what they believe in. The chorus reads:

"tell me, tell me a story,
tell me not to worry, or pick up the phone,
so turning, turning a deaf ear, so that i don't hear, them throwing stone."

To me, this seems like a person with a view that he/she can be lied to so they don't have to worry about facing the troubles of their lives. When you are a kid, you aren't told things about divorce, war, fighting, rape, murder, etc. because your parents want to protect you from all of these horrible realities that are sad but true.

Also when he sings:

"to get a word from the wise, would be a welcome surprise, keep an ear to the ground, so to drown out the sound of the failures that make me whole"

To me, this seems like this person is open to hear a message of truth, but he's keeping one of his ears to the ground so that he doesn't have to hear about these harsh realities that are part of life. It seems that this song is saying that the world is filled with people committing injustices, but sometimes it's better to drown out all those bad thoughts by avoiding them altogether.

System of a Down – Lost In Hollywood Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, this song is about fakes...particularly the stars of Hollywood, but in general the idea of pretending to be someone your not. These ideas are clearly evident when the amazing verse on "phony people com[ing] to pray" chimes in. This song can be interpreted as the hollywood stars, the religious (who say they are religious but don't really believe it, they are just religious to have something to fall back on). I also think this song is about hope, because the end of the song (and since it ends Mesmerize) has such a hopeful tune...the best indicator of hope is when Serj hits that higher "ahh uhh ahh uhhh" with Daron mixed in...pure beauty.
