World Long Gone Lyrics

Sometimes, I said sometimes
I go crazy, like I'm crazy
It takes patience, lots of patience
Then it's over, fucking over

I look at the sky, faded
I read the stars

Maybe I don't know
How many people are starving
In this world long gone

Sometimes, I said sometimes
I go crazy, like I'm crazy
It takes patience, lots of patience
Then it's over, fucking over

I look at the sky, faded
I read the stars

Maybe I don't know
How many people are starving
Maybe I don't know
How many people are starving
In this world long gone

I look at the sky, faded
I read the stars

Maybe I don't know
How many people are starving
Maybe I don't know
How many people are starving
In this world long gone

It seems to me that this song is about people are get fucked up all the time because they want to forget all the problems in the world - people who don't want to deal with life. He doesn't "know how many people are starving," but it doesn't matter because in his mind, the world is "long gone".

Looking at the sky, faded and 'reading the stars' seems like references to being fucked up on drugs... same thing with 'going crazy'. That's pretty much every word in the song explained... oh yeah and it takes 'patience' too. Good song, good album.

I reckon the song is about how the world is "long gone"

Maybe I don't know How many people are starving In this world long gone

It sounds like he is unsure of how many people are actually starving, but knows that he is not one of them.

its about inequality. the western world lives rich compared to LEDCs, but they have their on comparably small problems. They avoid thoughts of thoughts of the people who are suffering, because it hurts. It ruins their moods, the maybes are themselves trying to comfort themselves by saying they dont know about it and they cant do anything about it, and the faint voice which repeats the "people are starving" is the sub-thought stream saying they do know but are trying to block that other voice out to avooid feeling bad about it.

To me the song is all about him being what he is, Daron has always been a pretty large activist. A lot of songs are about things of a similar topic. In this particular song it's pretty obvious that he's talking about how people are starving in the world ("Maybe I don't know, how many people are starving.") and most people are just sitting back and watching, not knowing and not really caring. ("How many people are starving, In this world long gone") This song actually reminds me A LOT of System of a Down's song "Hypnotize" In Hypnotize (which was written by Daron) they speak on how there are so many things in this world that need our attention and are in need of fixing but most people are just, "I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl." Love both bands and wish System would get back together and make a new album.... :(
