Mineral – Five, Eight, and Ten Lyrics 21 years ago
I really like the instrumental right before the ending chorus, it's one of the best instrumentals on the album.
Does anyone know what the name "Five Eight and Ten" means?

Mineral – Slower Lyrics 21 years ago
The rawness of the production, the pure and genuine effusion, and the absolutely brilliant instrumental section at the ending, man it's just all so awesome. I find myself listening to that instrumental over and over, and it just gets better every time. The buildup to it, the chord progression, the density of the guitars and drums, and the screeching guitars...man it's just so freakin amazing

New Found Glory – My Friends Over You Lyrics 21 years ago
Second, NFG and Simple Plan and those bands are not real emo...emo started out in the 80's as a branch from hardcore punk with bands like Husker Du and Rites of Spring, who were hoping to find an artier, less direct way of expressing anger and emotion. Emo gradually became artier and artier, shedding its punk characteristics. Bands like Nation of Ulysses and Jawbox followed, before emo sort of went down low for a while.

Then, in the earlier 90's, a band by the name of Sunny Day Real Estate revolutionized emo music. Although different from first emo bands, it made the entire genre accessible to the masses. Its debut album, Diary, is considered the definitive album of the 90's emo movement. What followed was an explosion of emo bands like Jets to Brazil, Jimmy Eat World (today JEW have lost most of their emo char.), Mineral, and Appleseed Cast. Today, emo has lost its fuel.

"Emo" as it's called today (Dashboard Confessional, New Found Glory, Starting Line) is not emo. Many are inclined to call it that because of its broken-hearted, depressing relationships that characterize lyrical content. However, the fact remains that New Found Glory and those sorts of bands are not emo or punk. They are merely punk-pop, a genre with little resemblance to its predecessor of the 1970's.

New Found Glory – My Friends Over You Lyrics 21 years ago
For those of you people out there who are arguing about how Simple Plan is classified, I can clarify. I am an aficionado of studying rock music and its roots and know a lot about the whole "punk-pop" movement that has been hitting the nation in the past few years. Let me first say that Simple Plan is not punk. Punk rock as we know it was a dead movement after the final hardcore punkers of the 80's died out. Real punk rock was characterized by sarcastic, witty and snotty attitude, a rebellious standing towards conformism and government, and simple, three-chord melodies. It included bands like the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Jam, the Ramones, Television, just to name a few. Hardcore punk followed in the 80's with the Dead Kennedys, the Descendants, Bad Religion, Minor Threat, etc, before sinking into the American underground later that decade and fusing itself with heavy metal to create the thrash metal that Metallica, Anthrax, etc. play. Today, punk-pop is a result of the mid-90's punk revivalist movement of Green Day, Weezer, Screeching Weasel, etc. (those bands are not real punk rock either), and punk-pop really shares no characteristics with its 70's predecessor other than speedy tempos and chords. Other than that, nothing.

Simple Plan today is merely a result of the punk revivalist movement of the mid-90's that was fueled by Green Day, Weezer, and Screeching Weasal. The only aspect of Simple Plan's music that gives it any sort of punk characteristic is its speedy tempos. Other than that, punk-pop today really shares few characteristics with its 1970's predecessor.

Mineral – Parking Lot Lyrics 21 years ago
I love how the song gradually builds in intensity, and then it just explodes into a outbreak of emotion...so powerful. I love the religious references in this song. A lot of people in this country are losing touch with God, and that can cause them to behave badly and do bad things to their fellow humans. I think this song serves as kind of a wake up call for people. This song is simply pure genius, one of my favorite songs ever.
