Eamon – Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back) Lyrics 20 years ago
This song and Frankie's carbon-copy are a total commercial stunt.
Sorry if anyone actually feels they can relate with this crap, but I just can't see how anyone can be so blind that they don't see how perverted the whole thing is.
There are plenty of songs in the world about being cheated on and feeling shitty about it, so you should find one which is actually heartfelt and has an element of musicality about it.
All the swearing is just to get attention, because it is quite pathetic otherwise. Its unbelieveable how a such a pile of rubbish can be turned 'cool' by throwing in a record number of curses.

@ blackrush, yeah, the intro deserves a better track than this, it is beautiful.

Damn, I thought I had a pretty good analysis there.
Fair enough. Glad to see I've struck up a discussion though...

Haha...
I have to agree with that Quiffporn, even though I have quite enjoyed disagreeing with you in the past.

Shit, I remember this thread. I can't believe I haven't visited for so long. You still here, quiffporn?
I'm going to be a right hypocrite now and carry on this discussion just an itsy bit longer.
About the commercialism 'sell-out' stuff, I have to say that I agree...partly. From the surface, its easy to say that they've just jumped on the Finnish-Goth bandwagon and trundled straight into the hellish jaws of the music business. But it is called The music business, and a business it has to be. To make sure you're successful you have to produce music that people will listen to. When you look back at The Rasmus' history, you can see that they had two cards to play: The cheery, funky 'Hellofatester' material (Personally my favourite - so damn unfair they didn't do more of that!) or a darker, more mature side, like Dead Letters.
To be fair, the band tried both, Hellofatester came first XD, and it failed...miserably - so bad that they lost their drummer.
Then came Dead Letters, which was an instant hit. So now the pressure on the Rasmus is to produce more break-through material, just deeper and more complex.
Sad but True.

Also, they are impressionable young boys and vunerable to inspiration. I know, I'm 16 and I'm constantly affected by fashions and influences. I think Lauri has just been watching too many vampire movies and reading too much Lord of the Rings (his fav book - he admits it!) and now he's gone all ethereal and dark.

And the pop-sound is just their style, they can't get away from it. Unfortunately, pop music has been given a bad name thanks to grotesque commercial icons like Britney Spears. I hate to see people try to place TR in the same category just because they don't thrash around to a cacophony of guitars and long hair.

Actually, someone has mentioned this idea before - BornWithYourKiss, on page 1 was on the same lines.

Yikes! What a moron...
Now, children, can we please stop the bickering and get back to analysing the song? ;-)

This is the song that got me and my baby sis addicted to The Rasmus. I think people seem to get a distorted view of the song by watching the video. TR themselves have said that its generally about the feelings you get in your teenage years - of being quite trapped in your responsibilities and just starting to express your own thoughts. I think you have to be a teenager or just out of your teenage years to really understand this one. Its not really about a boy-girl relationship at all, like many people like to think. He is trying to find a purpose and is starting to disagree with other people's views and form his own, as suggested by the line 'I'd rather kill myself then turn into their slave'. That's such a powerful line, and one of my favourites.

The Rasmus – Last Generation Lyrics 20 years ago
Well, I first thought of the end of the world. It's probably just me and my paranoid mind, with all the earthquakes and natural disasters happening. I thought it was about global warming finally causing some big disaster, "a raging ream of light". People are desperately abandoning the technology and industry they have relied on and have destroyed the planet with, "stopped and left the car" and are crawling back into nature's arms to search for safety, "ran into the field".
Its definitely the earth's last chance, God has given them a chance to change, but they haven't, "the end of salvation".
The family represent the innocent people who will suffer because of the actions of people worldwide. "The last generation" had the power to change things and look after the planet, but they failed and now we look back on the "memories" with envy and bitterness.

I have to agree with RealSugar.

But I don't blame the band for going down this road, I think they see it as their way of maturing. They will write what they think the fans will want to listen to, and after the success of Dead Letters, they must think that that style is what we want.
To be honest, I discovered The Rasmus through Dead Letters and I was shocked by the contrast with their previous material and I instantly loved it all.

I saw Dead Letters as the natural next step in the band's evolution. Hide From the Sun is one step too far - Too dark.
I say this, but I still love Hide From the Sun and some of the best lyrics can be found on this album, but I wish they didn't go so over-the-top with the phase of wearing nothing but black.

This is my least favourite song so far. Others like Dead Promises and Lucifer's Angel are amazing, but I think the lyrics to No Fear are so bare and bleak that they are not worth discussing.

I agree, this is a great one.
I think that it is about a friend or lover (I'm assuming its a lover by the way Lauri changes the dynamics to a softer tone on the line 'Who I love'.) who is acting in a way that he doesn't approve, or they are unable to get along with another - 'Times are gone for honesty'. Maybe the other person feels that they are in competition and he wants them to be equal - 'My victory is your defeat'.
He is walking away from the relationship and is saying that he has the power to do so and that he doesn't have to put up with it any more. It leaves the other person with a choice : Change or lose me.
The other person is acting as if they are not inclined to change, 'before you know the ride is over' and he is urging them on to make the change - 'It's up to you if you give it up.'

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 21 years ago
skeetstan - what the hell are you on about man? Go and get yourself a strong coffee and come back to us.
Regrettably, I am too young to remember the music of Nirvana and I am just starting to be introduced to the music of this influential band. Smells like teen spirit is one of the first songs of theirs that I have heard and I was personally blown away by the accuracy and truth behind the lyrics. I think you have to be going through the teenage years to truly feel the power behind it. I would like to thank cyprezoid for his/her excellent interpretation above - It was truly enlightening.

There's not very much I can think to say about the lyrics, but I really love the song. Really funky and catchy. It makes me think of rasmus' Funky jam - Utterly pointless, but totally funky. ;-D

kevlar_soul - I have to agree with your last comment. I did find it a little...blunt. But we have to keep in mind that they are foreign and possibly not as familiar with the English language. (But considering some of the other stuff they've produced, they don't seem to have an excuse. lol) Perhaps it is done deliberately for a more striking effect.
Still, I think the lyrics for the chorus are beautiful and the whole song definitely lives up to the Rasmus' usual amazing quality.

WiseWiz - Thanks for trying to sort these jerks out. I totally agree.
Lauri wears feathers in his hair because he has the nickname Lintu, which in English is 'bird'. He says that they give him a sense of freedom, plus they do look really interesting and fit with their style.
dementia - Calm down, you're not really giving a very good impression of Rasmus fans with your ranting.
suburbangraffitti - I have to contradict your point. I feel that you are stereotyping very unfairly. I do like linkin' park's music and nickleback, but they are no where near my favourite bands and I can't stand puddle of mud. However, I do like deftones and I love The Lost Prophets, Killswitch Engage, Greenday, Savage Garden, The Darkness, Evanescence, HIM, The Distillers, Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams. Despite all being part of the rock genre, they display a wide range of styles - I'm sure that a lot of Rasmus fans also have a varied taste in music, which cannot be stereotyped.
quiffporn - You can't say that HIM or Rasmus fans have no taste in music - In that case, I want to know what exactly you consider as good music! Sorry to sound supercilious, but you can't have good or bad taste in music - You either have taste in music or 'music'. Just like you can have music and you can have stuff which is passed off as music, which is usually manufactured crap in which the band members can't play any instruments.
Remember that music is a complex mix of notes and beats that sound pleasant to the ear. Different sounds affect people in different ways, therefore producing different tastes in music. There is no right or wrong. There is no such thing as bad or good taste.
The Rasmus compose and play all their own music and it is damn complicated too (I should know, I've tried playing it from sheet music!). I don't care if you don't like their music, you are welcome to your opinion, but lots of us do like the music and we're proud to say it.
Let me conclude that you are a fucking small-minded, cowardly moron. Thank you and goodnight.
