I back up Deacon Frost here. The song isn't just about being left behind whilst everyone else moves on (an explanation to the song on one of Keane's websites, I think) but is also about daring to be yourself despite the changes around you. The song is supposed to be inspirational as well as sad, I think (which just adds to the beauty of it). p.s. SEE KEANE LIVE, THEY ARE AMAZING!!! |

| I recently saw Keane in concert (they were absolutely amazing!) and Tom gave an explanation for this one. He says that it's about being in a low place, a bad state of mind and so you keep f*ckin up, but the more you try to talk about it or explain it, the more you actually do f*ck up. From this and the explanation I found for Bend And Break I wonder if any of the band have suffered serious depression? | |

I found this on a website, something Tim said; "in bend and break that phrase is more about getting through a really dark state of mind and emerging into brighter, happier times. the old saying 'the darkest hour is just before the dawn' is very true and potent i think. people often say that with proper depression, things can seem unbearably awful as your thoughts run around each other in the dark of the night but when the sun rises you can get more perspective and see things in a more hopeful way." |
