Kenny Rogers – The Gambler Lyrics

I have held many long, heated discussions with my mother as to whether The Gambler dies at the end of the song. I say he does, she says not. I think it just makes sense. What else would "broke even" and "final words" refer to? And he already said that "the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep." |

Pavement – Range Life Lyrics

This is probably the best country-rock song that's not on The Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo." Even if you don't care much about the Pavement/Pumpkins drama, you can still enjoy the catchy-as-hell melody. |

Spoon – Everything Hits At Once Lyrics

Lyrically, this is definitely one of Spoon's best and most mature songs, along with "Paper Tiger" and "Chicago at Night".
Spoon rocks the Casbah, especially live! |

Belle & Sebastian – It Could Have Been a Brilliant Career Lyrics

This song is my namesake! Love it. For me, Stevie's backup vocals on the chorus just take the song to higher level of pop perfection. An excellent, although kind of quiet, start to an album.
P.S. -- I've wondered this for some time: What are 'Dansettes'? |

Belle & Sebastian – Ease Your Feet in the Sea Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I believe this song is about coping with a friend's suicide. For example, "Suddenly, without a warning/on a pale blue morning you decide your time is wearing thin/a conscious choice to let yourself dangling/hovering." Regardless, it's still a very pretty song with a nice violin solo. |
