| Dala – Levi Blues Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's "with Albert Hall" - it goes with the other word play in the song, such as going to the Big Apple to take a bite. | |
| Kalan Porter – In Spite of it All Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| He collaborated on a few songs from his first album, but I don't think this is one of them. The credit for this song goes to Randy Bachman and others. | |

| Proven wrong...he's released a successful followup album and toured across Canada, and working on a third album. He's writing, recording, staying in touch with the music industry and his fans. It takes talent and hard work and he's got both. | |

This song makes my cry every time I hear it. It seems so obvious it was written about his feelings as his mother was going through treatment for breast cancer. To me, it just fits in my life right now, and in the current times. When I read about all the horrible things going on in the world, such as the bombings in the Gaza strip, I think of this song. For all the personal events and issues I'm trying to deal with, I know there will be beauty again in my life -- I am trying to find it. |

I love this song! Does anyone know what it is about? To me, it seems to be about loss of faith because faith has failed you in a time of need. karma - Hindu and Buddhist concept that a person's actions determine his destiny in his next life Karma King in the song is "Ruler of the grand illusion", "Breaker of the kindest hearts". He sends out mass confusion. When your faith has failed you there's the "tragic flaw" revealed - you stop believing because your faith failed to protect you. "Power's been confiscated" He asks you to "Lead me on and desert me/Like I have done to so many" The lighter meaning could be about the music industry because so many artist have a few minute in the spotlight then are quickly forgotten? Perhaps it is Kalan's own fears? "I could always play that part Ruler of the grand illusion" "How did I become a part In this game I created? I’ll follow even though I hate it " is about taking part in the music industry. You create it by being a listener and participant. When the artist is forgotten because they no longer have hits, he sings: "Suddenly I’m overthrown/ Suddenly I’m at your mercy /Lead me to the great unknown /Lead me on and desert me /Like I have done to so many" Incidently, Karma is a charater in the Canadian show "Instant Star" starring starring music competition winner Jude Harrison as a teenager with a recording career. Karma was the Instant Star winner in season 3. Well, it may represent Kalan's fears, but I don't think it is a self-portrait -- he's not "play(ing) that part" -- he's no wanna-be, it's no "illusion" -- he is a real star - he has real talent, amazing stage presence, and seems to be hard working, and no "breaker of the kindest hearts" -- he cares about and appreciates his fans so much! |

It does put things in perspective doesn't it? I hope that your parents really do love you and just maybe you don't see eye to eye. Most parents love their children. Some may have a hard time showing it but there is something I don't have children, but my friends have started having children so now I am finally learning this. Anyway, I'm glad you can make something positive from this. |

| The Tea Party – Oceans Lyrics | 17 years ago |

It was a tribute to their late manager, Steve Hoffman, who died of lung cancer in 2003. It is such a beautiful song, which most will probably interpret as lost love, but knowing it was written for a passing of a friend makes it so much more poignant. For me, when I hear it, it always makes me think of a friend I lost recently. |

| Janis Ian – At Seventeen Lyrics | 17 years ago |

She wrote this song at a time when she felt awkward, surrounded by terrific looking tall straight-haired blondes, when she was short with dark curly hair. OK, I only get the obvious references: short -> And those whose names were never called /When choosing sides for basketball At the beginning, she is sitting at home imagining guys calling her to go out. Then a "brown eyed girl" (ethnic descent, and also not popular, but wise) tells her that perhaps people who "win the game" by choosing beauty first will get what they deserve since the love may not be true. In the end, she now sits at home, and imagines the cute guys are bad guys because they aren't interested in her based on her looks. (" To cheat ourselves at solitaire Inventing lovers on the phone Repenting other lives unknown That call and say, come dance with me And murmur vague obscenities At ugly girls like me") Ugh. that was a clumsy interpretation. Can anyone help? |
