| Evanescence – The Change Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It's about a relationship that's not working out. She feels that they've both changed and grown apart. She wants to break it off but can't bring herself to do it (Thought that I was strong / I know the words I need to say / Frozen in my place / I let the moment slip away). They both still love each other but she feels that it's not enough to build a relationship on. | |
| The Cardigans – Godspell Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Sounds like a commentary on the distortion of religion over the ages and the faults and dangers of organized religion. "I heard about a great big swindle I read about it in a book The book flew out the window Was later found by thieves and crooks" Organized religion is just a sham - the leaders just pick and choose how to interpret each part of the Bible and which parts to ignore depending on what gives them the most power/control (the book flew out the window - was later found by thieves and crooks) "And now they're singin' Hallelujah I'm wonderin' just what did they find They say "what's it to ya? Just take a place in line" " Anyone who dares question the leaders is told to shut the fuck up. "I'm one of a few survivors In a drawer labeled lost and found Moon travelers and deep sea divers Whose oxygen supply ran out" Non-religious people are often described as "lost" by religious people so I think she's referring to her not buying into religion as an organization and thus she is more free than others even though they might label her as "lost". "Now maybe if their gods be willin' They'll give us somethin', fill our empty cups Sit down in the boat, don't spill it Or we'll just have to line back up" Refers to how the point of religion often seems to be that people should be sorry for even being born and that they should pay penance for existing every breathing moment in hopes of maybe reaching salvation and enter heaven. Don't ever question the way of the lord because then you're fucked. "You can hear it in the beat they march to And you can feel the earth shake when they start to dance You can tell by the way they move you It's not murder, it's an act of faith, baby" The point of religion is to get people not to think for themselves but to go blindly by a higher law (essentially, the only difference between a religion and a cult is how long it's been around and the number of members). Everything is justifiable if it's in the name of religion. "And as the world moves faster Whiplasin' us round and round It's quite a slow disaster But people keep on fallin' down" Despite all the progress mankind has made religion still has way too much control over people's lives (and not only the lives of the ones who believe) |

| Repo! The Genetic Opera – At the Opera Tonight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The parts at the beginning and end are from the film. | |
| After Forever – Emphasis Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think it's pretty much about that you should stop searching for some sort of a meaning to life and just live it. Make the most of your life while you still can because you never know what's around the corner. | |
| Lacuna Coil – Wave of Anguish Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Sounds like it might be about someone who's trying to follow their dream (of being a musician, perhaps) and it's not working out like envisioned at all. The stress of the disappointment, broken dreams and lack of money has caused that person to have a panic attack. "A Wave of Anguish" sums up perfectly how a panic attack feels, in my opinon. | |
| After Forever – Cry with a Smile Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To me it sounds like the song is about losing a loved one but the loss imparts both a feeling of sadness and happiness/contentment. For example if a loved one were suffering from cancer or Alzheimer's. It's always sad to see your loved ones go, but after a long and painful struggle with such awful diseases you also feel good for their sake because they can let go and not suffer any more. It reminds me a bit of my grandfather who had Alzheimer's. He'd been so far gone for a while that I'd already gone through most of the grieving process when he finally passed away. At that point, while still feeling distraught, I felt content because his suffering was over. |

| Leaves' Eyes – The Thorn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Not to Finland, they sail to an "unknown land", or Vinland (Newfoundland) :) | |
| Leaves' Eyes – Solemn Sea Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The whole album tells a story of a group of vikings who leave Norway in search of a new land. Vinland Saga is the intro, Farewell Proud Men says of when they embark on their journey and in Elegy we see the thoughts of two lovers, a man who went on the journey and the woman he left behind. This song, is a continuation, she worries about him because she sees that the sea and weather are rough and his perspective show that they are sailing through a storm and he prays for a solemn (still) sea. Norwegian part: Sail the strong sea, the sun has gone down into the wide ocean in the dark depths rests a dream of an unknown land |
| Leaves' Eyes – Lyset Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The song translates to something like this: The Light The light is eternal The light is life Through the millenia Through walls Farewell to the darkness Farewell to the depths Sun, stars, moon Eternal flares The light is beautiful The light is the way Through storms Through wars |
| Leaves' Eyes – Vinland Saga Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great intro, really sets the mood for the album :) The Norwegian part means: The time has come Time will show ... The storm led the ship West towards an unknown land towards an unknown land |
| Theatre of Tragedy – And Then He Falleth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| There's at least one problem with these lyrics... the song is called "And when He Falleth", lol | |
| Within Temptation – The Cross Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| To me it's about someone who won't acknowledge your problems. There are some serious problems in her life but the person (someone close to her) refuses to deal with the situation and goes on living as if nothing's wrong. The Judas thing is just a metaphor, showing that even Judas admitted his problems to himself, so why can't you as well? She keeps on begging that person to help her, understand her, acknowledge her pain - "embrace me" - but still doesn't understand why she bothers to spend energy on a seemingly lost cause. | |
| Within Temptation – The Swan Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's called "The Swan Song" because a person's final act or effort is often referred to in that manner. (Taken from the old belief of the Mute swan singing right before it dies). Evanescence's "Lithium" has nothing to do with Nirvana's. Amy is using lithium as a metaphore for numbing or repressing one's feelings (good and bad). |
| Lacuna Coil – Veins Of Glass Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song reminds me of Evanescence's "Breathe No More", thematically, that is. I think it's about someone that always carries some sort of a mask, is never honest about who he/she is, and it's killing him/her. "These ghosts I keep inside Shards of glass in my veins Release me from myself, release From my duality" It's a horrible feeling to live constantly in hiding "I face this as a soldier would But useless is my war The innocence that smiles today Tomorrow will be lying" He/she tries to break out from the facade, but it's too hard, so the charade keeps going on. "Who is that really dies, when all the people look at me? And I'm twisting my fingers in my hair While a mirror reflects me" The "who is it that really dies" line I think refers to when the person is acting like someone he/she isn't, the real self is being "killed". "Now I'm digging to the bone All the painting Scratching at flesh, drives me mad To be alive and free And the ghosts I keep inside myself How do they see me? While again I'm drowning With my soul You will save me?" These feelings of insecurity and duality are driving the person mad, he/she doesn't want to pretend, but can't reveal his/her true self, it's too hard. A plea for help. |
| After Forever – Forlorn Hope Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's actually: The peace that was born today gives us all the hope that the children born today will never know war between us and their mothers will know no sorrow. Allow me to end by the simple words: Shalom, Salaam, Peace It's from the "Address by Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin at the signing ceremony of the Treaty of Peace between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan" Sounds like the song is about the tension in the Middle East, fundamentalism and how war affects people |
| Nightwish – Master Passion Greed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Haha, I love how you put that "Obviously, Nightwish is not fond of him." Yeah, you're right, it's pretty obvious. One of my faves from DPP :D |
| After Forever – My Pledge Of Allegiance #1 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about a woman (possibly muslim) trying to break free from the constrictive rules of her religion and/or an abusive partner by running away. Many things point to that it's a muslim woman, "beauty concealed behind a curtain" (the burqas they have to wear in some communities), "ancient culture", "honour", desire + guilt (religion often condemns desire). |
| Garbage – My Lover's Box Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sounds like she's obsessed with someone, (either an ex-boyfriend or she's just stalking someone) and she keeps stuff from him in a box under her bed. She feels that if she can't get him, his things will give her a "little piece of heaven". | |
| Massive Attack – Angel Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It somehow makes me think of Lolita. | |
| Within Temptation – Say My Name Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Reminds me of my grandfather who had Alzheimers. It's a very beautiful song. | |
| Garbage – Push It Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Love this song, one of my faves. I agree that it's most likely about make-up sex Is it just me, or is the video for this song royally-f'd up? (it's still one of my fave videos :D) |
| Evanescence – Where Will You Go (First Edition) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| One of my favourite Ev. songs, I like this version better than the Origin one, 'cause it's alot more gloomy and fits the mood of the lyrics. Like most have said, I think it's about someone that acts all high and mighty around people, alienating them, but it's just a guard and in reality that person is very insecure and lonely | |
| Lacuna Coil – Purify Lyrics | 20 years ago |
One of my favourite LC songs. I think it's about someone that has always pretended that his or her life is perfect, lying to him/herself and everyone else. But then something happens that makes him/her crack and realise that things aren't always what they seem. |
| Within Temptation – Overcome Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I am shocked that no one has commented on this song. This is the best WT song out there, period! I have no idea why it wasn't on the album, but oh, well. I think it's about someone that has been the underdog for all his/her life, always been walked over and no one noticed his/her suffering, but has now decided to be heard, he/she WILL overcome everything and carry on with his/her life. |
| Nightwish – Crownless Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think it's about people that have been put up on a pedestal without having really done anything to deserve it. They often tend to get arrogant and self-obsessed,but don't realise that in a blink of an eye, everything can fall from under them. |
| Nightwish – Deep Silent Complete Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Tuomas said that he wrote this as a tribute to the "power of the mighty Oceans" | |
| Emilíana Torrini – The Boy Who Giggled So Sweet Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I can't believe anyone has commented on this song, it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard I think that this song is about a woman's little baby that dies, the lyrics are pretty straight forward |
| Within Temptation – Our Farewell Lyrics | 20 years ago |
IMO, this song is obviously about the passing of a loved one, and that our loved ones, dead or alive, watch over us in our time of need and with that said, I've got to say, that the live version of this song is (believe it or not) even more touching and powerful, atleast on my Mother Earth DVD where it's sung as a duet |
| Within Temptation – Aquarius Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think it's about one's love for the ocean, someone that is willing to risk his/her life to be out at sea | |
| Nightwish – Wishmaster Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Tuomas on this song: "This is my personal tribute to fantasy, especially the closest to me; Tolkien & Dragonlance. These worlds have become a sort of inverted reality for me, where the story of "The Kinslayer" can't become reality... Moreover, I don't believe in this thing called "destiny". We are the masters of our own wishes, beliefs and dreams. Whatever you desire enough, it can happen. Destiny is an excuse for those who don't have the strength to fulfil their wishes. Everything is possible. Even the impossible." |
| Nightwish – Wanderlust Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Tuomas on this song: "It's a cliché that life's a one big journey. But that's the way it is. And there's so much to discover and experience on this planet. I couldn't bear the thought that I would have to live my life with the biggest experience being a one-week trip to Canary Islands after working in an office for one year straight. Routine kills everything. I wish people would find the "wanderer within"." |
| Nightwish – Two For Tragedy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Tuomas on this song: "The biggest tragedies always require two..." |
| Nightwish – She Is My Sin Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Tuomas about this song: "A song about the hidden sins that every one of us has, buried deep beyond comprehension." |
| Nightwish – Higher Than Hope Lyrics | 21 years ago |
it'a about a close friend of the band, that was suffering from cancer (or some another terminal disease) sadly, he didn't live to hear the song... I think it's very beautiful, and touching, and the metaphores in it are great |
| Nightwish – Dead Boy's Poem (feat. Sam Hardwick) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him... | |
| Nightwish – Angels Fall First Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think it's about someone that hasn't done anything wrong in all his/hers life, dying a sudden and unfair death. Some kind of a "good guys finish last" concept... | |
| Nightwish – The Carpenter Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I am not a Christian, but I still love this song, I really love how Tuomas's voice works in contrast to Tarja's in this song... | |
| Nightwish – Sleeping Sun Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| it's without a doubt, Nightwish's most emotional song, it's so beautiful, all your emotions, be they good or bad just come out when you listen to it... | |
| Nightwish – Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover) (feat. Tony Kakko) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think that he (unmarried) is having an affair with his friends wife, his friend finds out and frames him, he takes the blame to protect his friends wife (so she wouldn't be found guilty of adultery) and it's about them wishing and praying that they'll meet again | |
| Nightwish – Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| lol, you forgot to say what the title means :P, the song title means "Death Makes an Artist" (IIRC) | |
| Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think it's about a person that's willing to sacrifice everything he/she has for another person, just to find out that the other person had betrayed him/her I also love the instrumental version... |
| Evanescence – Where Will You Go (First Edition) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I actually prefer this version over the Origin one... not sure why... | |
| Evanescence – Imaginary (Monsters) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
lyric correction: You can leave the world you live in 'Cause inside you may not remember That something waits for you to breathe again love it to bits, in some ways I think it's better than the Fallen version, but I think I like the original EP version the best |
| Evanescence – I Must Be Dreaming Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Catherine is a song that hasn't been released, officially or unofficially... this one is called Bleed, but is often mislabeled as "I Must Be Dreaming" and "Unknown" I think it's about discovering that someone that you have loved and trusted for all your life (a father perhaps) is a whole another person than you think he is, for example if you'd walk in on your father hitting your mother... |
| Evanescence – Haunted (Remix) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
there are 2 demos of Haunted, version 1 has these lyrics, I think the other (version 2) has the same lyrics as the Fallen one... and yes, there are supposed to be like 4 bleeps at the beginning... I like this version the best of them all, it's the eeriest one of them all :P |
| Evanescence – Goodnight Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I love this song, and the last part of it "We said good night And not goodbye" has so much meaning to it |
| Evanescence – Field Of Innocence Lyrics | 21 years ago |
^those are actually fake versions made from downloaded mp3's, even though they are factory pressed, Amy has said countless times that people should not spend a fortune on CD's that are most likely fake, if they want to hear their pre-Fallen stuff they should download it... if someone has the real Origin they would auction it off for atleast $100... and btw Origin has never been rereleased in any way, shape or form (and most likely wont ever be), all sellers that claim that they are selling a "russian rerelease with bonustracks" are selling fake copies I'm not trying to be a jerk... just way to many people have been tricked into buying fake CD's while they could've just downloaded the songs, and it's 100% legal, seeing that the band allows it :D |
| Evanescence – Everybody's Fool (Demo version) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Amy wrote it for her little sister when she was becoming one of those "omg, britney's so awesome" girls. Is there any way to submit corrections to songs cuz I know what that "some guy" is saying, and the song is not called "not Fallen version" lol, it's called Everybody's Fool 2001-2002 demo v.1 (or v.2... the lyrics are the same) btw, the guy says something along the lines of this: "The dynamic of symmetrical social riots Can be summed together in broad statements, That what has become blueprint for all, And all have been reduced to the space of one" |
| Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I love this song, it's so beautiful and epic, and the chorus is so haunting | |
| Nightwish – Nemo Lyrics | 21 years ago |
the Nemo=Nobody fact is correct and that's waht Nemo means in this song the song is about being nothing (atleast feeling as you're nothing) or not knowing who you are, if you've seen the video, then you see that she disappears into thin air at the end of it... |
