I think it's about a woman (possibly muslim) trying to break free from the constrictive rules of her religion and/or an abusive partner by running away.

Many things point to that it's a muslim woman, "beauty concealed behind a curtain" (the burqas they have to wear in some communities), "ancient culture", "honour", desire + guilt (religion often condemns desire).
