I love this song. Some information about this song:
W. C. Handy, also known as "the father of blues" and his band were the first black group to play the blues. The place where they played was on Beale street. Graceland was Elvis Presley's home. One of the rooms in his house was the jungle room, and around the end of his carrer, he tried to record his music there. Reverend Al Green was a soul singer and is famous in Memphis. Muriel, at the Hollywood Cafe, and Marc Cohn had a conversation when she was on one of her breaks, and then when she had to get back up on stage, she asked him to join her. She sang gospel music, and she asked him if he knew 'Amazing Grace', which is the gospel he's talking about in the song. An interesting thing that I found is that the Hollywood didn't serve catfish, yet he mentions that there's catfish on the table. Thats about all the information I was able to find on this song, but there's probably a lot more out there. |

I remember the first time I heard this song. It was about a week before I learned in my Geography class that it was a real place. |
