"this is how it works you're young until you're not you love until you don't you try until you can't you laugh until you cry you cry until you laugh and everyone must breathe until their dying breath" that part makes me think & feel a lot. it's like - things are the way they are. sometimes, you don't have control over things. you can only do so much. that message is kind of repeated when she talks about the song being on the radio twice in a row because the DJ fell asleep. all you can do is listen to it over again. |

I think this part: "I don't wanna be here you just wanna be there but its awful complicated and you're warning me to beware" is about person A wanting to be with person B who is deliberately staying away. B feels that a relationship would be very complicated and probably has issues to resolve with past relationships, etc. B might even feel like a heartbreaker and might be thinking that s/he might hurt A if they were to get involved. So B warns A "to beware" because the relationship could end badly and B is insecure. |

I agree with delial. It doesn't have to be about the end of a relationship, just a person leaving, maybe halfway across the world. And their friend/lover/etc. wants to be remembered and thought of. S/he wants a part of themselves (and memories) to be in their suitcase, meals, dreams, words, bones, etc. S/he wants everything that this person does to be associated in one way or another with him/her - so that they'll always be thinking of him/her. |

I agree with digitallove. I think this song is about person A who likes person B, despite the fact that A knows B is not a very good person and, specifically, not good for A. A is falling for B even though B is all wrong for A and A knows it ("this one's come to tear me all apart"). A is reading B's gestures and body language ("just read those eyes, trembling lips, and carburator sighs/thighs") and can't control the crush "even though [A] know[s] they're telling lies." A wants to stop liking B and begs his/her heart to "be still." A also notes that s/he's "grown soft" - s/he probably never stood around for the shit and lies that B is feeding A in the past, but now s/he's taking it. And the feelings A has for B are so strong; A feels B can use A whichever way s/he'd like ("cut me, smash me, strain me, eat me") - A is like apple sauce: fluid and weak, unable to be strong against B. I think the "don't forget" part is A reminding him/herself to be strong and remember that B is full of lies, reminding him/herself to "be still." |
