| To me, this is about someone who has lost their love and they feel the pain of that loss which is the curse. The first part seems to talk about how the pain remains, but the sharpness of it as well as the memories fade over time, yet the pain still remains. I found this to be a very moving song. | |

| I heard on the Radio from an interview with Disturbed that the lyrics speak to global warming specifically. For me personally, I first heard this song with the Gulf Oil Spill going on so I kept thinking about how the lyrics might relate to that. By the way, if you look at the lyrics of Disturbed, they have been in the business of preaching in the Lyrics since at least the 10 Thousand Fists album, which had a lot of anti-Bush lyrics in it. Preaching is nothing new for them, whether you like it or not. | |

| I agree with the comments about the connections to the desert life and greek mythology. I enjoy these times where ancient mythology has been placed in Nightwish songs. I am not an expert with mythology, and had to look up what Elysian Fields were, they are a place where heros and virtuous rest in death. To me this song is about someone running from the violence and problems a person faces in the world (horizons swarming with death) to a far away remote place (the desert) and even as he tries to flee his problems they tend to follow him, and in the end this person finds rest in death. Thats what it means to me. | |

| Excellent song. It seems to be a reflection on Tarja's expulsion from Nightwish. She is saying that like the Phoenix (a mythical bird that is reborn from its ashes when it burns and dies) she is strong and can come back as a success on her own in the aftermath of being kicked out of Nightwish. It is a song of courage and her committment to continue as a successful singer. | |

| Very sad to see that no one has posted anything for this band. Even if you don't speak German, you can still appreciate the beauty of the language and the music. This song is a very nice one, and really highlights this band's unique instrumentation, most notablly the bagpipe integrated with more traditional instruments. | |

Here is my ideas on what the lines of the song could mean. My opinion is that the song is about love rather than drugs. Here is my dissection: Everyone to tell, I want to breathe the fumes, -Maybe he is thinking about suicide because he is so depressed. Everyone got blessed, I still love you. -Maybe the girl he still loves is now in love with someone else. No one ever said I don't enjoy the shame, -He enjoys making himself feel bad, a sort of punishment for failing to get the girl to like him No one ever said I don't enjoy the game. -Trying to get a girl to like you might seem like a game... maybe he enjoys that aspect Nothing ever changes here in my bizarre -Nothing goes right in his life... his life might feel messed up, or bizarre I came (to) a world, it's farther ruled out. No one believed God loved his children, -I am not sure about this part... ideas anyone? I'm all alone, no one forgives me -Perhaps he wants the girl to at least forgive him, or maybe even the girl's family got angry at him too for some reason. I've said too much, God loved his children. -Maybe he thinks for a minute that perhaps God still loves him. *Also, I think the very last chorus in the song actually should be "Nothing ever changes here" |
