Pearl Jam – State of Love and Trust Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about Faithfulness, and the resisting urge to be led astray in unfaithful deeds.

I don't believe it gets deep into outreach or murder or anything, but more metaphorical with the ladened guilt of cheating on your wife/lover.

Eddie Vedder wrote this song after watching an early version of Singles, and what he took from it.

But we are all open to our interpretations, and that is something that Pearl Jam inherently strives for.

Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling into Place Lyrics 17 years ago
There is no Radiohead song as blatant as it seems to appears. There's very little straightforward.

This song, as stated in interviews, is the paranoia that you can die at any moment, and this song takes it from many different perspectives, and perhaps there's nothing you can do about it. In everyday things, moment by moment. It kind of fits in the growing noise buildup by the end of the song as it seems this song takes over its own encompassing environment, no matter what is being said or what is happening.

Muse – Sing for Absolution Lyrics 18 years ago
The concept of this entire album is apocalyptical. The "absolution" is more of a general term, not necessarily overly being specifically religious, but more of a "forgiveness for what we have done". In the instance it is being religious, it's vague and interchangable with any belief in a higher being. The desire to forgive man for what he has done.

Magnet – Where Happiness Lives Lyrics 21 years ago
It's also along the lines of the struggle of the past to change the future. He feels like he's not himself if he isn't high. He can't deal with reality. So he consumes more cocaine to try and reach that pinnacle, that enlightenment. But his habit is hurting him and those around him.

But at the same time one must think if their current state of being had hurt the future that they had wished for. See, he "use[d] the last of the powder". He had lost her, but he was willing to dry it up and take it solo because he's realized that he was not himself. He didn't need it. That's not who she loved.

Magnificent song and well articulated.

At the same time there's this subtle meaning.. that no matter how hard we try to reach that point of perfect happiness, it's only an ideal. We have to make do with what we have.

Ayumi Hamasaki – Naturally Lyrics 21 years ago
Probably one of my favorite songs of all time, and it definitely pertains to a lot of my life...

The song is about the idea of having "things" to make you happy. How money, dreaming not doing, doesn't create happiness. It's pretty straightforward I think, but I also think it's something people don't reflect on either. We all need each other basically, and through our interactions with each other, do we find selfworth.

Muse – Hysteria Lyrics 21 years ago
I personally think this song is more about filling internal greed to "indulgence". It's about everything. Perversion.. doing things you know are wrong, but doing it anyway for self fufillment. Not looking at long time effects of what you're doing, as what a lot of youths do.

"feeling my faith erode", quite simply places the entire song.

Muse – The Small Print Lyrics 21 years ago
I believe this song falls correctly to where we lie today in society. This is a fairly corporate song. The idea of selling "propaganda" to mankind, to help them forget on what's happening around them or "the small print" on the contract. It's the beginning of the end, and it's taking advantage of humankind, is what this is about. The worshipping of false idols (like evil dictators, or whomever runs the government). If you do know the truth, you will be labeled as being "insane", because only the government knows the truth and they "bend it".

Muse – Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics 21 years ago
I personally believe that the song takes a turn as some government repeating what happened earlier in the album when they reigned in the apocalypse. The government not being sanctioned in "religion", it's really just a metaphor for their sins to mankind. The idea that they will bring it again, and not learning from their mistakes. It's almost reminding them that if they do what they do, they will surely suffer the consequences. "the end is all I can see"

Muse – Ruled by Secrecy Lyrics 21 years ago
I feel that this song is about the uprising of the people. Think of it like this.. we have reached a point to where mankind is being ruled by something that could create some apocalyptical world again, and they're failing at creating it because the people are aware and won't stand for it. Eliminating the sickness and the 'ruling by secrecy' as the people rule, rather the ruler. And at the end of the album, the people understand and create their world in awareness.

Muse – Blackout Lyrics 21 years ago
This song lies in direct connection with Butterflies and Hurricanes in the way that it's the "self doubt" side of everything. It's the desire to right the world again, however, not having the selfcapacity to do so. It speaks to a specific number of people in a realistic way today. Those who follow life as the world gives it to them, instead of taking charge of it, in this postapocalyptical world.

I would refer to this as my personal "fall from grace" song. The kind of song I could picture in a movie of someone committing suicide in really slow motion as it panned to other characters in the story. I don't know that's just me.

Muse – Plug In Baby Lyrics 21 years ago
This song has nothing to do with internet porn.

I do agree that it does have to do with matt's guitar, and as said before.. there was an article in a magazine where he described it on "how cool it would be if we could genetically engineer puppies to live forever". I don't think he was completely serious in the song meaning. I honestly believe it's more about the ability to overcome critics or his "enemies" with a simple plugging in of his guitar and tuning out reality.

Muse – Butterflies and Hurricanes Lyrics 21 years ago
I'd have to agree with roughvelvet here. The Butterfly references makes the song pretty clear. The idea is more of a "rebound". This song too speaks for all of mankind. Somehow we can overcome what we have done, and recreate what once was. Remember this album is apocalyptical.. so I feel it is more of the uprising of esteem among the survivors to overcome.

Muse – Sing for Absolution Lyrics 21 years ago
I think it is quite blantant what it means.

In a sense, there is a specific order that the first few songs follow. It follows Time Is Running Out on the album which was the idea of Government consipiracy and the end of the world. Sing for Absolution is taken from a dying perspective. So much of humankind lost to what has happened, and it's some sort of repent for what we have caused. It's also half of the dreaming of the days that were, before all of it happened. It's almost as if he wishes to be forgiven for the contribution as if he were speaking for all of mankind.
