Where Happiness Lives Lyrics
well it was last october, on a tuesday night
she said you and me are over if you're getting high tonight
so he went straight down the white line and let a good thing down
it wasn't driving her crazy, it drove her right out of town
but there's a million miles to go to where happiness lives
he'll put his mind in detention and let his heart decide
to try and catch her attention, he's got to catch a ride
use the last of the powder that lets him push ahead
move at the speed of lightning and leave the miles for dead
but there's a million miles to go to where happiness lives
she said you and me are over if you're getting high tonight
so he went straight down the white line and let a good thing down
it wasn't driving her crazy, it drove her right out of town
to try and catch her attention, he's got to catch a ride
use the last of the powder that lets him push ahead
move at the speed of lightning and leave the miles for dead

This song is pretty clearly about cocaine addiction. He's got a girl, but he chooses the drugs instead. And now he's got a long way to go to be happy again.
It's also along the lines of the struggle of the past to change the future. He feels like he's not himself if he isn't high. He can't deal with reality. So he consumes more cocaine to try and reach that pinnacle, that enlightenment. But his habit is hurting him and those around him.
But at the same time one must think if their current state of being had hurt the future that they had wished for. See, he "use[d] the last of the powder". He had lost her, but he was willing to dry it up and take it solo because he's realized that he was not himself. He didn't need it. That's not who she loved.
Magnificent song and well articulated.
At the same time there's this subtle meaning.. that no matter how hard we try to reach that point of perfect happiness, it's only an ideal. We have to make do with what we have.
Here's a quote from Magnets website: "It's about 2 people in a very dysfunctional relationship where one of them likes to [do] lots of drugs and she doesn't want to do drugs. It kinda sorts around that basically." -Even
this is very sad. it is interesting how the song sounds so happy.
