I Want this song played at my Funeral, that and Johnny Cash's Hurt and Fade to Black also but anyways here is my interpretation. All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere *Basically she/he sees that life is nothing but a series of tasks and jobs repeated day by day, and she/he sees no point in continuing it or going on. And their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression * That she/he sees people suffering but decide not to expose their tears in front of others so they go around with a blank expression. Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow No tomorrow, no tomorrow * She/he too doesn’t want to let people see his sorrow and pain, and he wants to end it, he hides his head simply to hide and to not let people know he feels like dying so no one can stop it. And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had *She/he reflects on his dreams and realizes that his death is meant to be. I find it hard to tell you Cause I find it hard to take * When she/he tries to explain to people it's difficult for him because it brings him pain. When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World *Another example of how life is a series of repeated tasks and makes everything chaotic. Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday *The use of children shows the wanting of simplicity and innocence in dreams and it comes right after the chorus which has a part about dreams but the dreams are of her/him dying, essentially her/his innocence dying making her/him ready for death and just enjoying simplicity one more time in terms of memories of birthdays party, a happy time. Made to feel the way that every child should Sit and listen, sit and listen *Shows that after reflecting on innocence she/he is put back in control of others and is essentially trapped. Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me, no one knew me *She/he feels that around hers/his peers those who SHOULD know how he feels no one does, she/he is nervous because he knows this is the last of hers/his days. Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson Look right through me, look right through me *Since no one hers/his own age understands how she/he feels she/he sees that those who have already been through what she/he has and they understand, but do nothing about it. And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had *She/he is once again reflecting on hers/his dreams and sees that this is the way it is supposed to end. I find it hard to tell you Cause I find it hard to take When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World Enlarged in your world Mad World *Simply put hers/his last words that she/he wants to get out I love this song and I consider this to be the song the describes who I am, a wonderful song. Also if you replace all the his and hers and she and him and all that and replace it with Donnie Darko it parallels the film. |

this song is unlike other suicide songs I don't know maybe the fact that the song starts off kind of "poppy" but the poppy gets dark and disturbing. I can relate but most of the people got it wrong. Basically is about not living up to what people expect you to and it changes all the time Now I see the times, they change Leaving us, it seems so strange then you just want to die because you can't please anyone anymore a lot like metallica's The Unforgiven. |
