During the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, African Americans endeavored to improve their social situation, to galvanize prejudice’s final Gotterdammerung. Bone and Biggy adduce that as the 1990s dawned, black people found themselves atop a maelstrom of momentum and potential—only to be powerless due to infirmity and internecine struggle. Hitherto listening to Notorious Thugs, I was unaware of that the African American movement had achieved so much, only to be stopped before reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. It was Notorious Thugs which opened my eyes to this halt of progression, to the sequacious masses who live oblivious to their own kind’s misdeeds and voice scant opposition to rampant injustice."

Bah I disklike this song and most of the albumn for that matter. Thrice just lost that raw emotion and passion that was present on their last 2 releases. Sure their sound has matured, but it is just far too watered down and commercial for my tastes. |

I think this song is about a relationship where the singer feels like his lover is really in love one of her former lovers "Kisses are never safe when residue of old love is left how could I feel lesser when someone better walks around / waiting for you to call out " And he develops this inferiority complex because he thinks he can never live up to her former lover. "As your cold hand grasps mine I feel unright and privileged to be able to look in your eyes". This makes him depressed "Crying to sleep is my remedy urgently trying to stand on broken / confused legs". But in the end he decides he's being over dramatic and decides ignorance is bliss "Am I looking for reasons not to be happy emotions catch up with me / I'm too fast for them". |

this song to me is about selling out. Thrice sold out, they no longer play any of their old stuff at concerts and they have totally changed their sound. How appropriate that a song about money would be the first track on their first comercial release. I woudnt mind if they were still good, and if they played their old music when you saw them live but god damn! Their new albumn even had explanations of every song as the insert, how pompous is that? |
