| Guided by Voices – Echos Myron Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I definitely can see this interpretation! Men of wisdom are the controllers, men of compromise are the ones that let it happen, and men of weak flesh are the mindless defenders of this regime. Echos Myron is the leader of the revolution. |
|
| David Bowie – Dodo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Not completely sure what this is about. But it might be calling people who follow the law/rules idiots. Being a good citizen under fascism is stupidity. Neighbor Jim turning you in and is a dodo because of it. Daddy being viewed well by the elite/rulers. It reminds me of a later song by the Clash called "Cheat": "Don't use the rules, They're not for you, they're for the fools" | |
| They Might Be Giants – Hide Away Folk Family Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| No matter what specific group the song is about the meaning is the same. A family that is somehow different from the rest of the community is being targeted with hate. Bombs, fire, violence. The family may be trying to subvert their heritage, or maybe not feel in touch with it. | |
| Electric Six – White Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
It might be more about drugs and death. The narrator is a drug addict and the ghost is a girl/lover that OD'd. She is warning the narrator of her fate. White eyes might mean getting off the drugs as opposed to red eyes that is common from drug use. White eyes might also refer to eyes rolling back into your head; perhaps during a seizure. Either way the white eyes (being sober or ODing) are scary for the narrator. The girl might just be a hallucination too. The second verse might represent the narrator getting clean but the former lover still haunting him. He might be urging to relapse ("It's gets so quiet I can hear myself bleed") |

| They Might Be Giants – 2082 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's on there new album, Join Us. Get it; it's really good. | |
| Adam Green – Broken Joystick Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Can anyone explain mariachi clothes verse? | |
| Electric Six – Clusterfuck! Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| About a riot maybe? | |
| Electric Six – American Cheese Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think it's about American television and the creation of bad sitcoms/the industry in general. First two verses are about executives and testing. Second two verses talks about syndication? Also the lyrics are a tiny bit messed up, nothing major though. |

| They Might Be Giants – Can't Keep Johnny Down Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| All of the dicks in this dick town, can't keep Johnny down. | |
| They Might Be Giants – When Will You Die Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I love the part where he introduces the band. Meaning is pretty simple. Hating some terrible person so much you wish they would die. | |
| They Might Be Giants – 2082 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| 2082 would be the one hundred year anniversary of TMBG. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Can't Keep Johnny Down Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Song from the perspective of a jealous, bitter man who feels like everyone is against him. "All of the dicks in this dick town, Can't keep Johnny down"=one of the best lyrics TMBG have ever written |
|
| They Might Be Giants – Cloisonné Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Sleestak could be cops too I guess now that I think about it. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Old Pine Box Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It might be about a washed up musician or star of some sort. Past their prime, they no longer have the talent they used to have, and now are acting out in anger/frustration. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Spoiler Alert Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song taught me that I pay more attention to Flansburgh's voice than Linnell's (or the left speakers vs. the right). | |
| They Might Be Giants – Judy Is Your Viet Nam Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| In love with a girl who has two totally different sides. Good and bad. The third verse is strange, but I guess it's realizing the good side of the girl isn't worth the shit. Or he realizes the good side was fake. So he finally gives up after so long. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Cloisonné Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I feel like the song is sung from the perspective of a criminal of some sort. "Don't go calling law enforcement," "Keep your voice down," Sleestaks might be a metaphor for goons/henchmen types. |
|
| They Might Be Giants – Canajoharie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| The song seems to be equating evolution to growing up and leaving town. Personal evolution with human evolution. Reminiscing about old times as well. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Canajoharie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
In the overgrowth of the underbrush Shone a fossil tooth which I must have dropped Very long ago Which reminded me how we wound up where we are now Right through those trees, I'm not insane That's where we came into this place And if you squint, if you squint your brain I'll get my paints and I'll try to paint Canajoharie Canajoharie Where a front flipper first evolved on the day When a daring mudskipper dragged itself away Out of Canajoharie Canajoharie Call me sentimental but I want to go back And commemorate the place with a historical plaque It's as if a fin, reaching from the swamp Grabbed me by my arm, tried to pull me in But my arm was strong And the fin was an inaccurately reconstructed fake It was right through those trees, I'm not insane That's where the fin tried to drag me in Don't look at me, look at where I'm pointing Close your eyes, see what I see Canajoharie Canajoharie I get the creeping feeling all my old friends are gone And that this baby tooth no longer fits in my skull If you can draw it in the air Or write it down, then you weren't there What's gone is mute Someone changed the truth They smoked the proof And there's nothing left of Canajoharie Canajoharie Where a front flipper first evolved on the day When a daring mudskipper dragged itself away Where a rocket ship experiment went awry When the prototype exploded on the launching site Back in Canajoharie Canajoharie Call me sentimental but I want to go back And commemorate the place with a historical plaque |

| Ramones – I Wanna Be Well Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| He had OCD. | |
| Polaris – Summerbaby Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| The girl probably died based on the "Do you see a lot of angels up their like you?". He still thinks of this girl when he is masturbating and even when he is with other women. | |
| Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers – All By Myself Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I thought it was "common sense". | |
| Adam Green – Boss Inside Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| A woman can't find a lover because she's been fucked up by her abusive father. | |
| Electric Six – I Buy The Drugs Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It could be about people giving up on life and becoming addicted to drugs. The main character is providing the drugs but he is also saying that he could help her. "I could be the jumpstart..." could mean that he could help her sort out her life and get off drugs. It's strange because he wants to help her but is willing to keep supplying her with drugs. He might think that her life was so tough that she needs the drug to survive. | |
| Electric Six – Naked Pictures (Of Your Mother) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It might be talking about how Americans care more about sex scandals than real violations of humanity (dropping a bomb on Japan). | |
| Electric Six – Gay Bar Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Definitely about politics among other themes but probably not specifically George Bush. Valentine wrote this when the band was still the Wildbunch in the mid 90's way before George Bush was an relevant political figure. | |
| The Beach Boys – Vegetables Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The vegetable crunching percussion is genius, I love it whenever biting/munching is used in a song. | |
| Flight of the Conchords – Hotties Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I love the line about the diggeridoo followed by the the short intermission featuring a diggeridoo. | |
| Flight of the Conchords – Sugalumps Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Best song of season 2 so far, its catchy and hilarious... | |
| Adam Green – Musical Ladders Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
My guess: Married couple fight a lot Fight on a birthday They have a child Husband not sure if its his Both cheat, one with mexican waitress They get a divorce and tell her parents |
|
| Simon and Garfunkel – A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Jerrybear is right, however I wouldn't necessarily say that this song is exactly a subterrean homesick blues parody, rather just a parody of Dylan's folk rock in general. My question is what type of relationship Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel had, there seems to be some dislike between the three. |
|
| Datarock – Laurie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Laurie Anderson was a singer, and Lou Reed produced one of her albums. | |
| David Bowie – Join the Gang Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
No sampling had been around for a short time before this wonderful song was produced. Good thing, I wouldn't want Bowie name to be associated with the technique that has allow thousands of artist to make a living off more creative individuals songs. |
|
| Kimya Dawson – Everything's Alright Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Good song especially the sweet little girl singing with Kimya about fucking a guy just for company/a hollow relationship. | |
| MC Chris – Illy Oi! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think he's says "Kucinich beats" (as in Dennis) instead of chris-enogen. It fits with the Wesley Clark and Howard Dean in the two tracks before this | |
| They Might Be Giants – For Science Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think its just about some shy kid who bravely approaches a girl that is new and dates her. | |
| Datarock – Maybelline Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's "Still spot her in the crowd" | |
| Datarock – Maybelline Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I love the commercial references, it really adds something to this song. | |
| David Bowie – Running Gun Blues Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Perhaps the main character is someone suffering from shell shock. He keeps reliving the stuff he did and its giving him the blues. However the interpretation of someone who can't stop killing or enjoys killing after the war ends is valid too. | |
| Ramones – SLUG Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm not sure how the girl referenced in this and slug go together. I really don't understand anything about this song. The girl walking in the woods could be dead, and she was murder and buried there. I'm not sure... | |
| Joe Cocker – With A Little Help From My Friends Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Ringo Starr worked as hard as he could to make a good song and Joe Cocker comes around and everyone forgets his. | |
| Miracle Legion – The Backyard Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Great song, one of the songs that got me hooked on Miracle Legion/Polaris/Mulcahy | |
| Ween – Waving My Dick In The Wind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the song has more to do with him getting drunk and exposing himself in public. He probably has a job that requires him to travel. The Jimmy Wilson stuff I also don't understand either. Just reminiscing maybe? |
|
| Ween – The Rainbow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| He doesn't mean it's all going to happen tomorrow, but a couple of decades ago homosexuals were looked down upon like beastiality nuts are now, and other crazy people. It's a slippery slope | |
| Paul McCartney – Band on the Run Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I was listening to the Alice Cooper on the radio like a month back and he played this song. He said that Paul wrote this after being arrested with a pound of marijuana in Japan, where it is a much more serious offense. | |
| Adam Green – Down On The Street Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song has something to do with reluctantly growing older, and not realizing it until you are older. | |
| Adam Green – Choke on a Cock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I am not sure exactly what he is mocking in this songs. He's definitely going at people who admire the president. But he is also making fun of Johnny Depp who is a big liberal. He might be trying to say that people shouldn't let idiots decide what they should think. He might just think they are both douches. | |
| Devo – Jocko Homo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I absolutely love the end of the song, before the final "We are Devo" part. One of the most persuasive and most addictive Devo songs. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Psycho Killer (Talking Heads cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I never heard BNL do this cover, but I know Moxy Fruvous did a cover of this song and put it on their live CD. | |
| Adam Green – Novotel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I have no clue what this song is about, it seems to a guy that feels like he is being suffocated by someone, or a group. So he is saying either weird facts, or lies to keep them from suffocating him. Also I love the line about smoking crack like Isaac Asimov (prehaps an example of the lies he is using) |
