I think that this song is about drug induced lethargy-- how drugs have replaced politics and religion(another marxist celebration/this time with pipes instead of guns) and the line about how it's "better than your imagination" shows how stuff can really sap the personality and life right out of you.

Sleater-Kinney – A Quarter To Three Lyrics 21 years ago
I love this song to death. It seems like the singer is just realising that she is so alone and unresponsive to everything around her, brought on by some sort of separation from someone she loves. She can't really see the point in anything anymore, and that her lowest points are the ones where she feels absolute.

I think that this song contains one of the greatest bridges in the history of music.

Elliott Smith – Tomorrow Tomorrow Lyrics 21 years ago
One of my favorite songs. . .I think that the guy in the song is coping with a friend's suicide and is frustrated with the hypocrisy of the people around him. It also seems like everyone fears for his mental health now, but they didn't care about him or the friend before the death. I think he's also scared that the static in his head will never end, and he'll end up just like the deceased. Listen to this song and then read Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky-- they go perfectly together.
