good thought, I couldnt really figure out the point of the last verse.... but writing something just for the sake of confusing people is something the Flaming lips would definately do. So does anybody have an idea on the Ghosts line in the begining? |

I love this song. That goes without saying. But has anyone heard a song called Angel Pumping Gas? I downloaded it, and apparently it is by the Postal service. I dont have the CD, so I wouldnt know. But anyway, its such a great song, but there was no place to comment on it so I did it here. |

I'm american. So I have to admit I dont know what It's like to be Irish or British (even though I have a little of both in my blood, way back). But I still know what thiss song is all about. While I dont have the faintest clue who Oliver Cromwell is.... I know who George W. Bush is... ANd Im not always proud of being an american. So i think i get it. |

Come on guys... yes the song is abstract, and it uses metaphors and euphamisims.... But its about people. The first verse is about a girl. She likes sex. (i must admit I dont get the ghost/hosts line) but toast is a euphamism for sex... hear me out.... she sleeps with a guy. Then the next morning instead of making him breakfast she gives him another lay. Thats the part about making toast with vasaline. Vasaline is asociated with sex, and toast is of course asociated with breakfast
The next verse is about a guy who masterbates. He is why peopl think the whole song is about masterbation. But I doubt the whole song is about that, just this verse... but yeah, he BLOWS his Nose is a euphamisim for blowing his load. And he uses magazines is porn. Simple enough.
THe last girl is vain. This one seems to have nothing to do with sex. (if Im wrong let me know). I think she's just caught up in her appearance(like Cher). Shes always dying her hair and messing with her appearance. Why they use tangerines in the place of something more obovious, like hair dye, i dont know.
But yeah, thats just my opinion take it of leave it. |

This song and pictures of you are the best two cure songs ever. Pictures of you is about regret, but this one is about dread. He thinks he is going to screw up the relationship (this song was written for his wife). And he's baisicly saying "hey, if I screw this up and I never see you again, I want you to know that I love you." Its a little insecure, but I think we can all relate. Its a beautiful song. The 311 cover sucks. |
