| Fall Out Boy – Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) Lyrics

I think this song is clearly a mock of the so called "the scene" and in fact all modern pop rock. I also think they know they fall under that category and revel in it, the point of the song.
Also, all the spoken parts seem to be very satirical and over the top whiny, which I think is on purpose on well.
My favorite part about a lot of these comments is they praise this song for taking a stab at "the scene" and then they worship the "poem" at the end which could be taken verbatim out of a 13 year old emo kid's livejournal.
It'd be unexpected if FOB didnt realize they are making fun of themselves in this song since a lot of their songs are pretty clever (hence XO). |

this song is about someone who refuses to take chances in their life and they end up coasting through a dark shallow life of being pushed around (Living life for others, Shuffle through the day, Everyone is out to get him). basically if he stopped living in the past and tried to live life to the fullest, he'd be a lot happier (the day the sun gets in your eyes is the day that youll be free). |

i agree with most of the interpretation about becoming self concerned. the end of the song it kind of the insight as to why he feels this way though. it seems he was once blind and euphoric(in the garden of eden, with ignorance) but he tasted the fruit, ie gained knowledge which i think means there was some great pain he can never forget(the taste remains) as he is leaving his once euphoric state. standing clear seemed to imply he'll never let himself be hurt like that again(he seems mournful to say so)
my second intepretation is this a commentary on the nature of humans, our tendoncy to be selfish and it all dates back to 'original sin' which we can never repeat but never escape |

my take on this song is that he is singing to himself. he knows so much about her as this best friend figure, but everything she wants in someone isnt goin to be him. This seems to be obvious general theme, as the last verse and bridge implies. i see the first verse as a reminiscent dream. the 2nd person narrative switches direction between himself(chorus, first stanza) and her(bridge, last verse)
'cause it's mad, so mad... |
