Closer to Our Graves Lyrics
The world is blocked out in the bedroom
The radio won't let her down
Every note is a reminder
Another failure born
Thirty miles outside Chicago
Kids know what's really going on
Still this gravel highway makes a statement
We're another town gone wrong
Moving out and moving on
You used to look like me
Moving out and moving on, forever
And this autumn air reminds
How things are slowly unwind
Changing times have been unkind to you
As these days they slip away
We grow closer to our graves
Had the best time of my life, without you
It's three month since I've seen Chicago
Now the buliding aren't so tall
I found our initials in the pavement
Just another dream gone wrong
I bet it's simplier today
Throwing everything away
But the memory remains, Forever
The radio won't let her down
Every note is a reminder
Another failure born
Kids know what's really going on
Still this gravel highway makes a statement
We're another town gone wrong
You used to look like me
Moving out and moving on, forever
How things are slowly unwind
Changing times have been unkind to you
As these days they slip away
We grow closer to our graves
Had the best time of my life, without you
Now the buliding aren't so tall
I found our initials in the pavement
Just another dream gone wrong
Throwing everything away
But the memory remains, Forever

this is my favorites song on commitment... not too sure on the meaning, seems like a breakup song
i dont think it's quite a breakup song... it's more a pondering of what they had and how, in the moment, things were perfect with this [girl].... but how, since then, it's been realized that things weren't as great as they seemed and how life was so much more fulfilling without [her].
I grew up outside Chicago and this song does sort of hit close to home.
It is pretty mixed about who does and who doesn't go to college, but we are raised with small town values in the subburbs for the most part because most familes move out here from smaller towns.
I went to a big school, my girlfirend at the time didn't, she was a townie and you know, sometimes you think about things that could have been. She still works at a diner, I am making good money, things were better back then, but they could never be the same.
Makes you think but at the same time it doesn't. Stuff happens....
this song is pretty cool. like buckeye said, it takes place in a suburb of chicago. downers grove to be precise. all of the band members grew up there. (so did i!)
