haha...someone's been to neko's website checking out lyrics posted there? ginintonic, it seems both of us have been listening to a lot of neko lately. i've been seeing your comments on a lot of the songs that i've been revisiting. the line you mention above though, is probably my favorite of this song, especially how she says 'aerial'. that smokiness in her voice is simply wonderful. i feel like this song off of FRL was the start of the new direction she started going to as an artist. from the contryesque feel of the beginning of her career to where she is now. have you had the opportunity to see her live? |

wow, what an amazing song by an amazing poet and artist. the stories and imagery that neko is able to expose in such detail and so concisely are truly mesmerizing. i always find myself repeating so many of her songs over and over because some(most) of them convey so much with so little! i mean this song is only 2 1/2 minutes...and has so much going on. i love the above interpretations, they've helped me come to my conclusion. what i loved at first about this song was the imagery of his 'hand in her pocked, and how they swayed from side to side', and at first i thought that it was her and him that were swaying side to side, being all smitten and in love. however, after examining the lyrics, it was the trees that were swaying from side to side! when he was still 'in her pocket' they were alive, and now that he's gone they've gone quiet. it also suggests that it's winter at the time she's writing this and revisiting this moment/relationship. hence the snowy eye. i also love that she repeats 'sees a different night' since she's talking about both the meddling sky as well as her snowy eye, that see a different night. and the night she sees differently is the night when she fell into the lion's jaws. the above interpretation by ginintonic is a really great explanation, and totally makes sense. i wouldn't say i know for a fact that neko's a nature geek, but nature does play a big role in her writing so i bet that hypothesis is not far off. and i would tie in nostalgicbadger's take on it, that it's something that she regrets. possibly a one night stand or something. |

i think it must be 'SportCenter' reference especially with the Stuart Scott and ESPN references. this is definitely one my fave songs of his, it's amazing where he can take you lyrically. i'm surprised that nobody has mentioned- "swallow my words, taste my thoughts and if its too naaaasty spit it back aaaat me" especially after the dicksucking reference, i think that's a SICK way to give a blow to all his haters. |

| i cannot stop listening to this song...over, and over, and over. since this is a break up album, it's pretty clear what this song is about, and i'm not going to discuss how this song makes me feel, or shows beck's feelins about his break up. BUT, what i do want to mention is my absolute amazement of the instrumental part of this song. the way that he is able to combine the orchestra with the rest of the band's instrument absolutely blew me away. i don't think i've ever heard an orchestra go SOOO well with a rock band. my favorite part is when he sings "let's just hold on to nothing, to see how long nothing lasts" and then the killer solo after the chorus that comes after that line. simply amazing. | |
