First off, I think Will Hoge is amazing, and i encourage everyone to listen to him I think this song is about two people who were formerly in love...and for whatever reasons seperated In the song hes asking her to still love him... He mentions that there are ashes remaining from a love that existed from one time, and hes showing up on her doorstep, and asked her to love him, and that in the morning to pretend the ashes from the past... He later mentions he can change if she needs him to, and then he brings up the ship, and asks her to hold on to him the ship sinks...not sure exactly what the skip is a metaphor of? perhaps his former life? or there former relationship that once existed? or perhaps everything that was him and her? Because I know how this ends And I just can't stand it this way he's talking about how he cant end up without her, so hes trying to fix things.. |

as far as songs that send a great message of jacks, i think this one ranks up there with cookie jar, its amazing how he comes up with stuff. by now it's starting to show a number of people are numbers who ain't coming home i can close my eyes, it's still there close my mind be alone i could close my heart and not care but gravity has got a hold on us all it's a terrific price to pay Above talks about the war and the toll it takes without people even noticing, i mean everyday on the news you hear of another person dead, and it has no meaning. one person dead is a tragedy, a thousand dead is a statistic. i think thats what jack is getting at some. we could say it's us against them we can try but nobody wins gravity has got a hold on us all we try to put it out but it's a growing flame using fear as fuel burning down our name and it won't take too long cause words all burn the same and who we gonna blame now i have to really give credit to jack, he sees things like the actually are, and puts it into words so well. I hope this song gets the recognition that cookie jar did, cause its definately just as good in my eyes...if not more meaningful to whats going on during the times right now.... |

| This song is a really good song, i'm pretty sure its about his relationship with god. If you look at many of Peter gabriel's songs they deal with god indirectly. He doesnt just come out and say. I love you god, in your eyes or anything like that, but the songs are still about god. I dont think Peter is a labeled "christian singer" but he definately has some good songs that are most definately Christian songs. Although that may be the intended meaning for the songs, you can view the song in any way that suits you. For example what taschibandgirl says about confessing your love. It could be about confessing your love to another besides god. EIther way you see it or view it, it is an awesome song. | |
