So bands like Rites Of Spring and Moss Icon should be considered moreso emocore than emo. Emocore does not = emo, and that's a fact. Emocore is a sub-genre of hardcore that has emo qualities. It's not Emo, it's hardcore. Early 90's emo like Merel and Current can be called screamo. And lots of that old screamo does = emo, but today, there is enough distinctive qualities in screamo to be it's own style of emo. And emo violence is a stupid fucking term some elitist would only use. I realize it stands for the heavy screamo stuff that's almost grind (Orchid, Reversal Of Man, Combatwoundedveteran), but it's a waste to use. So no, screamo no longer is the same as emo. And emo never should have stood for Emo Hardcore. That's emocore. And the original 80's emo is dead now. The Sunny Day Real Estate brand, which is post emo indie rock, has taken over for good. So bam, you have been owned by a master of the genres. |
