@[Typenirvash:38210] That's very interesting and quite possible. However the growl is used in other songs to indicate raunchy humour.l (e.g. "some girls are bigger than others").
I think people underestimate Morrissey's sense of humour and penchant for self-mockery. Personally I think this song is ironic the whole way through. It's the protagonist's way of dealing with rejection. |

@[andromeda1:38209] Telling somebody "I love you", which when wrongly timed can ruin a relationship. The whole song is tongue in cheek and the words forced and vile are meant ironically. They reflect how the protagonist fees his actions have been received. |

The protagonist is hoping to impress his friend "hair brushed and parted" and blurts out "I love you". The friend acts in a horrified manner, as if the protagonist had done something terribly hard-faced. This is meant to be ironic; Morrissey often is. The gesture was of course means most tenderly and respectfully, but now the protagonist kicks himself for being so silly. "Typical me" is often said by people who are acknowledging frequent blunders.
The guilded beams probably refer to a stately building or a gallery or some such where the protagonist makes another pass (maybe tried a kiss?) which is again rejected.
The protagonist is a self-confessed loser in love, but the whole song is ironic and done with humour. Another masterpiece. Love it! |

The chorus is for me is heartbreaking. I think it’s about someone who has died. I think that as space is continually expanding and we move through it on earth our memories get left behind, still existing, even after death, in a point of time and space that we could never get back to because we would have to move faster than the speed of light to be able to. So these memories will always be light years away. It’s something I have felt since before I ever heard this track so I was mesmerised when I heard it. It may be not what the band meant when they wrote it but that’s how it makes me feel. |

Such a great song which addresses a major issue of the time. Heroin addiction. Hence the name hammerhead. It's about being seduced by the affect of "hammer" (heroin). Like a beautiful seductress the you want to spend your life journeying with but will ony lead to self destruction. Well that's my translation anyway. I love the song nonetheless. |

this song can be interpretted so many different ways, but what it means to me is that some chick is torn between two guys, and the one guy loves her to death, and just wants to be with her; hes just asking her to make a simple decision, and to stop being so damn confusing.
