The Jimi Hendrix Experience – All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
Ta-da!!
I'm back and ready for some more insult tennis.
Any takers? I'll need someone with a bit more of a grasp of the English language, after all, I got thoroughly fed up swapping messages with Mr. Eagles - he was sooooo boring!
How about you, Chris23?
Or you, Herrenrasse?
What about jvnane? Up for it?
Or are you all too far inbred?

Any road up, for your infomation, this song was written by Bob Dylan as an analogy for the state of the world and America's place in it at the time. Jimi took the song, improved it 100 fold and with his position of rock God of the times, brought it to the masses. If you listen hard to the correct lyrics (you know the ones), and think hard about what was going on at the time, you can see the comparisons being made.

Or was it just the ramblings of a drug-stoned mind?
Discuss.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Bold As Love Lyrics 21 years ago
Jimi Hendrix was a genius. Like many other people who have reached those heights, he suffered with depression, or in his case, manic depression. Manic depression is much more of an emotional roller-coaster than straight depression, because depressives feel bad all the time, whereas manic depressives can feel good one day, bad the next and so on. To keep experiencing highs and lows is VERY draining, and at times you just need an escape. Jimi found acid to be this escape, because, let's face it, when you're shitfaced you really don't feel, you don't care, all your troubles seem to vanish. What could possibly brighten your world more than seeing pretty colours, visions, hearing sounds that don't exist in your 'normality'?
Jimi's depression was also fuelled by the frustration he felt at not being able to reproduce the sounds and notes he held in his mind with his guitar. Why do you think he was so experimental and hence, such a guitar pioneer? Would he have reached such an advanced state if he hadn't been trying so hard to play what he was thinking? Add some acid to the mix and you end up with songs like 'Bold As Love'. The colours, the inventiveness, the genius...

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Gypsy Eyes Lyrics 21 years ago
This is yet another Hendrix song that was basically autobiographical in its content. He was also quite an astute social commentator, and wasn't just fucked up on drugs writing drug influenced songs, as a lot of people seem to think. If you can read his lyrics and get past thinking 'drugs' you'll be surprised how deep some of his lyrics are.

You must be a fucking fast typist! Your post isn't error free, I admit, but seeing as you wrote it so quickly, I'll forgive you. At least you seem to have a SENSE of humour, unlike my adversary Mr. Eagles, who seems to be devoid of humour, intelligence and personality, which has obviously come from living incestuously with his trailer trash family for too long. Mr. Eagles, if the lyrics you've posted are not what Hendrix sings, but what Dylan wrote and sung, why the fuck didn't you post them under 'Dylan'? Dufus.
And yes, I am a virgin. An anal virgin. I can proudly say that I've never taken it up the shitter in my life. Something you could never boast about once your daddy reamed your hole as a pre-schooler. And your mummy, too, with her 10" strap-on. Hell, you could have been the meat in a parent sandwich....

YES, I KNOW IT'S A COVER SONG, YOU FUCKWIT, BUT THE LYRICS FOR 'ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER' AS PERFORMED BY JIMI HENDRIX SHOULD BE WHAT HE SINGS, NOT WHAT DYLAN WROTE!!!!!!!!
You cock-sucker.
So in a book of Hendrix songs, you would expect to see the music that Dylan wrote aswell and not what Hendrix played, would you? If you want the lyrics that Dylan wrote, look under Bob Dylan on this website and, hey presto, you'll get Dylan's lyrics. Because this is Hendrix's version it should be his interpretation of the lyrics that is included here, not Dylan's.
Are you capable of grasping that concept, you cunt, or do you want me to beat it into you? Never have I known such a boss-eyed, inbred, moronic shithead. Now please, fuck off back to your pig-fiddling and lose yourself in a swine's rectum, huh?

There are no lyrics for this song in the liner notes. And I shall repeat what I said in my last comment - what Hendrix sings isn't necessarily the exact lyrics that Dylan wrote. Is there anyone out there capable of grasping such a concept? I very much doubt it, somehow.

Yes, I do.
And my dad's bigger than your dad....

But seriously. After me -
I argue.
You argue.
He argues.
They argue.
I am arguing.
I'm having an ARGUMENT....need I go on? If you want me to teach you English, just let me know and we can come to some arrangement.

With regards to the lyrics (that is, after all, what this site is about), I have shed-loads of albums in my collection which have lyrics printed with the liner notes. But what is written and what the artist actually sings are often different. So what if the lyrics you claim are correct are what Dylan originally wrote? They certainly aren't what Hendrix sings. He doesn't sing enough syllables in that line for your lyrics to be correct. Concede yet, or are you fighting on out of sheer ignorance?
And if you reply, please come up with something witty and original. Your replies are so deadly dull!

No, spelling mistakes don't ruin an ARGUMENT for me, they just indicate that I'm ARGUING with a total fuckwit who doesn't possess even the smallest amount of intelligence. The English language is obviously foreign to you, as you fuck it up so much when you post messages on this site.
And by the way, Dufus, you should have finished the last line of your comment with a question mark. Basic punctuation, you know.
Twat.

Sence? Surely you mean 'sense', don't you? I'm beginning to think I'm communicating with the stupidest person alive. For someone to show such a laughable inability to spell - and by the way, Mr. Eagles, I've seen some of your other comments under Led Zeppelin - means that you must have spent your educational years being buggered by the headmaster rather than in a classroom actually learning anything.
None will ever own a mine - that line makes perfect SENSE when read in conjunction (sorry to use such a big word there, are you capable of understanding words like that?) with the previous two lines. You see, none (of the businessmen/ploughmen) will ever own a mine, because nobody of it (owning a mine) is worth. Admittedly that line has been rather bastardised to fit in with the previous lines, creating the alternating rhyme wine/mine and earth/worth, but it fits perfectly into the song and so makes perfect SENSE. Maybe if your brain hadn't fallen out through your cavernous rectum, made so by the merciless pounding its taken over the years, you would understand that.

Aaaaaah, another victim. Yo Bodester, why don't you go and play horsie with fuckwit Mr. Eagles who can't even spell? I don't doubt that you know how bad crack is for you - excessive use of it has obviously removed your sense of humour. Pathetic attempts at sarcasm aside, though, you do have a point. The whole idea of the comments is to share your interpretation of a song/an artist's work with other like-minded souls, not indulge in gratuitous bating of lower intellects.
We could all be friends. We could all love each other and treasure our precious moments together, sharing our love of Hendrix.
Now, all together, as one:

Businessmen they drink my wine,
Ploughmen dig my earth,
None will ever own a mine,
Nobody of it is worth, hey.....

The song was basically a jam, recorded at about 4am one day after a hard night's rocking, and the 'crowd' noise is an after-dub. They weren't recorded live.

Oh, Dornan, kindly explain what a 'kinky machine' is, please.
And don't say: 'A machine that's kinky'.
The song is based on Jimi's love of science fiction, and he's imagining himself as an alien. But as he wore a guitar pretty much like a tattoo, he saw himself as a guitar-playing alien. But he would have to put it down somewhere to go and explore.... you still with me?
Duh....!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Hey Joe Lyrics 21 years ago
Not every song has to have a meaning to it, like it's a social or political statement of some kind. This song was written by Billy Roberts, before Vietnam flared up, before a bunch of right-on sixties hippy types came up with the notion that everything has to have a hidden meaning, either pro- or anti-establishment. This song is classic blues, and what are blues songs almost always about? Cheating women, women who don't treat their men right, etc, etc, etc .
Please don't try and tell me this song's got hidden meanings.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics 21 years ago
Dear oh dear. What a sad, fucked up bunch you all are. And I thought Hendrix fans were above the average intelligence level.

Hendrix did do lots of drugs, mainly LSD and weed. He did try heroin a couple of times but it made him sick. He was caught at an airport with some heroin on him once, but it was probably planted on him. He was actually a manic depressive (hence the very autobiographical song), not a chronic depressive. And perhaps not a lot of people know this, but Mitch Mitchell was more of a druggie than Jimi ever was. Mitch used to go to Harley Street quite regularly and stock up on 'sleepers, leapers and creepers', which he kept in a specially made bag. Jimi got all the bad press for his drug use because he got all the press, basically. As good as Mitch and Noel were, they never courted the amount of press that Jimi did, hence why Jimi had the image of the hard drinking, drug abusing wildman.
Just before Jimi died, he had been having some glandular trouble which left him feeling rough. As anybody knows, when you're ill it takes a lot out of you without you really realising it. So when Jimi took those sleeping pills and alcohol that night, he didn't have to take as much to have a bad effect on him as he would have done if he had been in better health. So stories of megadoses of barbiturates and gallons of whisky are far over exaggerated.
He would turn in his grave if he knew what some people are saying about him.

Jimi Hendrix was the original and best rock guitarist ever. Although players like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen and Eddie Van Halen may have more tricks when they play, they owe their advanced state of guitar wizardry to Hendrix. If Jimi had chosen to play a different instrument, rock guitarists now would be a stilted, ham-fisted lot, years behind where they currently are. Hendrix was a pioneer, and it's frightening to think of how good he would be now if he was still alive.
And the song's the bollocks, too.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Castles Made Of Sand Lyrics 21 years ago
Jimi never fought in Vietnam. He was injured doing a parachute jump when he was still a teenager in the army, and never saw any active service.
The first verse is an analogy of his parents, only with the sexes reversed, as he saw his mother as being an angel (hence the song) and so he said that it was his dad who was the drunken disgrace, even though his mother was the one with the problem.
The second verse is based on himself and his ancestry, and how native American Indians were virtually wiped out, having at one time thought that they would be around for generations - the young boy dreaming of growing up to be a fearless warrior - only to be cut down in their prime.
The third verse just sums up how shit life can be sometimes, but that ending it all isn't necessarily the best solution, and that things may not be as bad as they seem, after all.
Put it all together, and you've got a beautifully crafted song that is one of my favourite ever.

Jimi, being the superstar that he was, was quite often just shunted from pillar to post by what he thought were shallow, grasping people, and as a result he would very often be travelling, waiting for planes/coaches to take him to God knows where. He would spend a lot of time in empty, soulless hotels and motels, bored shitless, his main escape from this being getting stoned - that same old explosion, going through his mind. He felt lonely, even though he was rarely given any time to himself, and LSD was his favourite drug.
Loneliness is such a drag.....

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Angel Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is about his mother, who (in the words of a thousand blues songs) used to 'run around town'. She was a tart with a drink problem, unfortunately, and so was never the real mum Jimi wanted her to be, but he still loved her dearly. She died while Jimi was still young, so he held an image of her in his mind - that of a protecting angel, as all mothers protect their children.
Perhaps there is a bit of 'life and death' in there too, because I don't think Jimi ever expected to live into ripe old age. One of the greatest ever tragic rock'n'roll deaths when Jimi was taken from this earth....

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Are You Experienced? Lyrics 21 years ago
Jimi hated the limitations that he felt the world sometimes imposed on him. He felt the overpowering need to be free - free in spirit, free in body and free in soul, and this song implores people to stop being so uptight and precious about themselves and to open their minds to the possibility that a free and more 'adventurous' life would be better for them.
Also just a superb song in its own right without the need for any poncey analysis!
I'll shut up then....

Yo, Robert Plant (yeah - like you're THAT Robert Plant!), how could Jimi be commenting on 1969 when he wrote and recorded the song in 1967? See the album Axis: Bold As Love, released in 1967, if you're in any doubt.
Jimi just wanted to live his own life and be free to make his own choices. So if the sun refused to shine and the mountains fell in the sea - so what? There's nothing anyone can do if those things actually happened, so get on with living your own life the way you want to....
