  • Added 2 Artists to SM: The Fresh & Onlys . . . and Macklemore

by artmaven on November 04, 2009
Haven't added artists in a long time to SM. I'm slacking. Yesterday, I added somebody, but I'll be damned if I can remember who, right now. If I don't stay on top of this in the journal, I don't stand a chance. Today, I added The Fresh & Onlys. Heard their new album, Grey-Eyed Girls -- a Fall 2009 release -- on Rhapsody. They're fuzzy, grimy, lo-fi, garagey, psych-poppy, rock 'n' roll. http://www.rhapsody.com/fresh/grey-eyed-girls http://www.myspace.com/thefreshonlys ************************* Oh, sumptin' shook loose in my head. The artist I added yesterday is Macklemore. Seattle Hip-Hop. Heard him via a mix of newstuff posted by a CIF over at imeem. He heard Macklemore on a KEXP podcast. My CIF wrote that the song he posted, "The Town," "is about [Macklemore's] music scene." "I learned from my teachers But became through my music. Take that away, that's a vital. Fourteen fathoms deep. Do the math. Tribal." It's a good listen. http://www.myspace.com/macklemore

  • added lyric - Roman Candle - "Eden Was a Garden"

by artmaven on May 18, 2009
Last week, I saw a post on the boards about Roman Candle. INKC said he liked their new album, Oh Tall Tree In The Ear. I gave it a try thru Rhapsody and love it. These guys are perfect for power pop night at Wigginstock. You just gotta have the lyrics down for these guys so you can sing along w/frontman Skip Matheny and his soaring vocals. I added lyrics for "Eden Was a Garden." I gotta do more.

  • added lyrics to "John in the Morning

by artmaven on May 18, 2009
Damien Jurado wrote and sings the John in the Morning theme. It's played each day before DJ John Richards starts "The Morning Show" at 6am PT on KEXP, 90.3 in Seattle. www.kexp.org I like John and the music he plays. I like the little theme song and always find myself singing along w/it. I don't think I've heard anything else by Damien Jurado. I dunno, maybe I have and don't remember. Listening to John and Cheryl makes work more tolerable, sometimes even joyous. The kids ask me the names of the artists/songs played when something catches their ear. That happens rather often these days. Just last week, Tyler asked me who was singing the "John in the Morning" song. He's asked me about The Thermals, The Horrors and The Hold Steady recently. Gina has asked me about Mates of State and Rhett Miller. Even Nicole asked me about Jack Pinate on Friday. I like teaching them that the radio CAN be good if we demand it and seek out quality stations. Hearing John's theme song means another day full of potential for the kids and me. Earlier today, I thought to look for the theme song on SM and was surprised that it wasn't already here. I don't see the lyrics listed anywhere online. Is that possible? I guess since we all sing them everyday, no one needs them posted. I added them earlier today, anyway. Just because.

  • added The Shackeltons to SM artists

by artmaven on May 17, 2009
I've been meaning to add The Shackeltons to SM since I saw them in July at Wigginstock (XPoNential Music Festival at Wiggins Park in Camden, NJ). What the hell took me so long, I dunno. I put up the band's main site as their link b/c it's so beautifully done and includes a nice myspace link. Their myspace is kickass, too. I definitely hafta get back there and catch up on the news. Speaking of . . . they're playing tonight (prolly as I write this) at the Khyber w/ Dexateens & The Features. I'm not there. My life sux! Boo, me. :(

  • Added Blk Jks

by artmaven on May 17, 2009
Tonight, I added the artist Blk Jks to SM but I don't have any lyrics for them. I'm googling but nothing is turning up for me. There is a person named Ankia requesting suggestions for a song to analyze for an English oral. I recommended "Thin Blue Flame" but then wondered how useful that would be. Ankia is from South Africa so I thought of Blk Jks. I've read that they write philosophical lyrics but I've not seen them written and I cannot quite make them out in their music. I hope someone will post their lyrics here.

  • Steve Wynn & the Miracle Three - "Bruises"

by artmaven on January 29, 2009
I suggested the lyrics for Steve Wynn & the Miracle Three - "Bruises" It came to mind when I took a fall on my way to the bed a couple nights ago. When Dan mentioned his on-ice wipeout on-air today, I took it as a sign. Just awaiting approval, now.
