I think that this entire song is him realizing that there's no point in existing. He's not necessarily suicidal, but he sees existence as trivial. His dreams about dying are not necessarily about death, but about ceasing to exist altogether, something he wishes was possible.
I have a faith that I constantly question and adjust accordingly to the way my life plays out. I'm not going to preclude that faith with the assertion that it's any more or less valid than anyone else's; quite frankly, there's no doubt in my mind that I'm wrong.
