... Elvis Perkins (born February 9, 1976) is a folk-rock singer-songwriter, who came to prominence with the release of his debut studio album, Ash Wednesday, in 2007. During live performances, Perkins performs with his band Elvis Perkins in Dearland, consisting of Perkins alongside Brigham Brough (bass, vocals, saxophone), Wyndham Boylan-Garnett (organ, harmonium, trombone, guitar, vocals) and Nick Kinsey (drums, clarinet, vocals). Perkins and his band are due to release their eponymous album, Elvis Perkins in Dearland on March 10 2009.
Perkins has stated that he "loathe[s] the term singer-songwriter, because it reminds me of open-mic nights and coffee shops and lazy chord structures," subsequently stating that he would rather be refered to as "a recording artist."
