Metal Guru, is it you?
Metal Guru, is it you?
Sittin' there in your armor-plated chair, oh yeah

Metal Guru, is it true?
Metal Guru, is it true?
All alone without a telephone, oh yeah

Metal Guru, could it be
You're gonna bring my baby to me?
She'll be wild
You know, a rock 'n' roll child, oh yeah

Metal Guru, has it been
Just like a silver-studded sabre-tooth dream?
I'll be clean, you know
Pollution machine, oh yeah

Metal Guru, is it you?
Metal Guru, is it you? Oh yeah

Metal Guru, could it be
You're gonna bring my baby to me?
She'll be wild
You know, a rock 'n' roll child, oh yeah

Metal Guru, is it true?
Metal Guru, is it true?
All alone without a telephone, oh

Metal Guru, could it be
You're gonna bring my baby to me?
She'll be wild
You know, a rock 'n' roll child, oh yeah

Metal Guru, is it you?
Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah

Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah

Metal Guru, is it you? Yeah, yeah, yeah

The song is about 'God', or as Marc himself said; "Is a festival of life song. I relate 'Metal Guru' to all Gods around. I believe in a God, but I have no religion. With 'Metal Guru', it's like someone special, it must be a Godhead. I thought how God would be, he'd be all alone without a telephone. I don't answer the phone any more. I have codes where people ring me at certain times."

    Song Meaning

Bolan's songs have a lot of inner meaning. It just depends on what kind of meaning you seek. This song is not about cars neither drugs - these are all superficial things. It's about love actually. About his dream of love... That he will be clean because you know - pollution machine, with time passing your mind gets a little dirty, that's how it works, this pollution machine which is life. But he hopes that he will be clean some day, that something good will happen and he'll be understood. That's the meaning, as simple as that.

I love this song. For ages I thought it was "Metal Guru is a jew." I'm sooo glad I know now. Yea, it sounds like a car to me. ^_^

Maybe it's about a guy's expectation that having a car will reel in babes. I dunno. Seems most T Rex lyrics have miniminal "meaning", yet maximum impact. Lyrics as beautiful as they are enigmatic. Some people might accuse Bolan of style over substance, but I think that, in his case, style is substance. One of the best songwriters ever!!! Brilliant man, brilliant band.

Certainly brought a heavy rock sound to an 11 year old kid when released. From then on, I just assumed he was a heavy metal guru - absurd, but to a kid who listened to the radio & had not heard anything as heavy on pop radio. We are talking radio 1 in the UK in the early 70's - I did not know what heavy metal was!!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
