Hands On The Bible Lyrics
I am forced to disagree. I believe that this song is about using religion as a justification for ruining peoples lives
The line
"For the repent that you saw"
needs to be changed to
"For the reaping that you sow"
Not only does that actually sound like what he's saying, it makes a lot more sense, too. Neatly fits into the song's moral center.
"As you sow so shall you reap..."
They have a video for this song, if you thought you were confused before, watch it. After watching the video I thinks it's about: Stealing a friends girlfriend by getting her hooked on drugs. Then she starts hooking and gets pregnant. The girlfriend stealer then kicks her ass so bad that she loses the baby. The jilted lover now wants his revenge. He knows killing, revenge and jealosy, are all mortal sins but he stares down his idol and has his revenge. The last line in the song should be "for the repent, at...

He knows killing, revenge and jealosy, are all mortal sins but he stares down his idol and has his revenge. The last line in the song should be "for the repent, at your side" girlfriend stealer can't believe jilted lover is about to axe him to death. A sude note the lyrics "rats in the attic" and "toys in the cellar" are both Aerosmith songs, except rats and toys are reversed. One song is about drug abuse and the other is about going crazy. I also the seven deadly sins are represented in this song. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride.
Lust: As your screw yourself into oblivion Gluttony: Worn and faded, Stoned and jaded Greed: She's an addict Sloth: Stare down your idols Wrath: Homicidal, Hands on the bible, for the repent at your side Envy: And he wants to learn Pride: Egomaniacal
wow, this song is so... what's that word?.... it's just amazing! i love it, what's it about tho? ,....... if anyone knows, feel free to email at adema60090@yahoo.com. Damn, i love this song!
i agree with the abortion thoery behind the meaning of this song.
I think it's a very deep song that about a number of things... I read it as diatribe against issues like abortion (Pretty baby / Never born), the disinigration of the family (Rats in the attic / Toys in the cellar), promiscuity (Egomaniacal, As you screw yourself into oblivion) and the shock one feels when they look at a disturbed world in which they've played some role in creating (You'll have to face it / On your own / Smashed on the pavement / Stunned in amazement / Everything you make comes crawling back to you / You can't believe it / You didn't mean it / But they saw you do it and they know your name). Very powerful song that, once again, can be read many different ways.
I totally agree soma as well as PoizonComeUndone. . you said it. . this song fuckin rocks, why have only a few people commented?!
hmm, well hands on the bible suggests testifying. Again, I go with the abortion theory. Except it seems like the criticism is not towards the person having the abortion, but towards all those who judge her for it ("god holds you liable for what you're done" has a distinctly sardonic tone) The idea is generally that if you get pregnant, you have to face some sort of consequence, but society judges you for keeping it and for having an abortion even more. Perhaps the message is: USE PROTECTION!
C'mon Bulky, that only works if you don't pay attention to the lyrics. It's a really sarcastic song about abortion, with some scathing lyrics that come across so heavy-handed you can't take it seriously. It's a chick coming to terms with an abortion, or being forced to. Whatever.
It was on Here Comes the Zoo, which was the last album the original Local H had.
Actually, Here Comes the Zoo was the FIRST album without the original H.
I agree with anomalou3 and Blind Opius. It's about religion and abortion. The girl has been persecuted for having an abortion by the "bible thumpers" and now she is turning and putting her "Hands On the Bible" because they have used those scare tactics so much that she has given in to their ways. The message I get is: Don't put your hands on the fucking bible, regardless.
