I've been on the road now for a day and a night
I've been lonesome and hungry for miles
I've seen how you people been lookin' your lies
I'm gonna kill y'all with your own smiles
But I wish that y'all could get a look at the news
And see what the man's puttin' down
Well I gotta hold a one yesterday night
And they threw me outta this town, oh yeah
Well it's gonna be awhile before I get home
But when I do that's the end of my roamin'
Cause I've been gone a lifetime and I can't believe
That the people I trust still can deceive

By the time I get back here things have to change
'Cause if they don't there's gonna be a lot of strange
Lookin' people marchin' round, clappin' their hands
And they won't stop till everyone understands

Oh yeah
Let me ride, let me ride
Let me ride now, let me ride now, yeah

Livin's just like sleepin'
Why is life not like a dream
Now the dawn is weepin'
Another sunlight sees
Oh I've been here too long now
I got to go outside
Ya people gotta let me ride

Let me ride, ride, ride
I got to feel free inside
I got to feel free inside
I got to feel free inside
I got to feel free inside

Ya people gotta let me ride
Let me ride, ride, ride
I gotta feel free inside
I got to feel free inside
I got to feel free inside
I got to feel free inside

the man is traveling and he is saying how stupid and fake america is, no one tells the truth and everyone is just smiling even though they know how wrong everything is. so people ignore the problem and he wants to go home and when he does he is never gonna leave, because when he is home everyone is nice, but even they arent totally real. everyone is fake because no one does anything for anyone else, hes hungry and lonesome because everyone is to busy looking out for them selves and "there are gonna be alot of strange people clappin there hands and they wonts stop till everyone understands" means that everyone wants things focused on them and they are goin to get what they want. "living is just like sleeping why is life not like a dream" why cant life be perfect. by letting him ride he means that some one finalyy succumbed to not being selfish.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
