Breakfast At Tiffany's Lyrics
I think there is more to this song.
It seems to me that "Breakfast at Tiffany's" means something special to the guy, maybe the day they saw the movie was one of their happiest days in his memory. So when she says she wants to break up, he says "what about Breakfast at Tiffany's?", meaning "remember how happy we were?". But her answer (I think I remember the film) makes it very clear that for her it did not feel special at all, in fact this probably makes clear that she never felt about him the way he felt about her at all, and now she's just making up lame excuses to leave him ("the world has come between us", indeed). So in the last line of the refrain I think he's just struggling to say something, anything (even if it doesn't make a lot of sense) just to hide how much it hurts him to just have discovered this fact.
Of course, there are those who will say I am reading way too much into this...
very well...
very well...
@doesnotcompute I don't think you are reading too much into it at all. He is just grasping at straws while she is trying to make a break with him. She's done with the relationship; probably because he was as needy while they were together as he appears to be in the song.

I think its about a couple's relationship going down the pooper, so they try to cling on to things that they can agree on.
+1 for using the word pooper
+1 for using the word pooper
It's obviously about a relationship going south. But it's one sided on the decision to end it.
"You'll say we've got nothing in common No common ground to start And we're falling apart You'll say the world has come between us Our lives have come between us"
The other person keeps claiming it can't work, but according to the singer
"I know you just don't care"
According to the lyrics it seems like the relationship use to be very good
"I see you the only one who knew me"
And the chorus: "And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany's She said I think I remember the film As I recall I think we both kinda liked it Then I said well then that's one thing we got"
as silly as the chorus is it seems to me like he is willing to work on the relationship because he knows it will work so he attempts something as silly and feeble as a bond over a movie.
I think it is also a jab at the other person, since they claim they have nothing in common he pulls up one quick reference and suddenly they have something. And it certainly can't be the only thing. It's as if the other person believes they have nothing in common, but it's more than likely because they don't want to try.
"And I know you just don't care"
This is so awesome... just wanted to add that she's making up all these excuses because she knows him well and she doesn't want to get hurt but she loves him so much that she agrees on that lil thing just because she also loves him very much?

@alumnae I really wish I could see this song as you and @CV4ever see it. I really enjoy the song and would like to think it is about the two reconciling. Of course that is the wonderful thing about music, different people will interpret it as they will.

the meaning of this song is not as superficial as you may think. Just ask yourself; why breakfast at tiffany's film and not any other. The main character in breakfast at tiffany's is a girl who had become good friends with a guy who later fell in love with her and she shared all her secrets with him. however the girl could not accept his proposal since she wanted to be married to two other rich guys on different occasions. at last she was arrested suspected of being in possession of illicit drugs and the guy she was about to marry annulled the marriage because of that. she tried to follow the guy but her friend, who had been waiting for her outside prison stopped her, gave her a ring and left in anger and then the girl ran after him and kissed him. the superficial meaning of the song is that at least they have something in common and the deeper meaning is that the guy is reminding the girl that she is his best friend and that he loves her very much and she should not leave him. so romantic...
i relate to this alot. but in a kind of opposite way, cause this is about breaking up because "we have nothing in common" even tho they don't want to but listeing to this song made me realise, even if you don't have anything in common, make things & make it work. If you truely love someone that much it will work; it worked for me and i love the relationship i'm in :D
I think this is about a guy who wants to get back together with a girlfriend or keep his relationship alive with her. She's always negative saying they have nothing in common and that thier lives are to busy to keep up this relationship. He is desperatly tryin to keep things afloat and remembers a move, Breakfast at Tiffany's, they must of both seen and liked. That one thing they have in common that she can't dispute, and they start from thier
"And I hate when things are over When so much is left undone"
so true.
I think this song is about a guy and a girl who were trying to begin a life together, but the girl sees now that it is impossible now to do so cos they don't have any thing that in common so the guy ( who is surprised that she sees things that way cos he once thought that she is the only one who knew him which turn to be a wrong thought ) tries to convince her that they indeed have somethings in common like that they both like the movie breakfast at tiffany's sothat thier love could have a chance to survive by that common ground to start from.
The song is self-explainatory (gaaah, spelling is not my friend). If you just read the lyrics... It's about a couple who had nothing in common except for the fact that they like the film 'Breakfast At Tiffany's'.
It's their "Common ground to start."
i think its about a couple whos relationship is like falling apart, and he's just trying anything to keep the relationship going .
even though he realises its over because she doesnt think they have anything in common anymore, and the "world has come between" them, he still wants to be with her, so he just keeps singing about breakfast at tiffanys, which is a film they both liked.
thats my opinion anyway it might not be what other people think its about but oh well lol.
anyway i love this song it reminds me of when i was little and i used to sing it with my mum in the car :) lol x
