Story of my life, story of my life
Well let's just say it's a fork and a knife
There's one thing on my mind, one thing all the time
I gotta fill my mouth
Got no favorite meal, got no favorite meal
I say every meal is clean if it fills me up for real
My belly's big and that's just the start
My appetite's my heart

And when I've had enough, I just throw up and laugh
This time, this time it's not a cow
Kind of personal, can't explain to you why
This time, this time it's not a cow
So Mr. PC are you ready to bow

Breakfast in bed, breakfast in bed
The bed is in the kitchen so it's easy to be fed
And when I'm fed, yes when I am fed
I go right back to bed
Food and sleep watch, food and sleep watch
Theese things should keep me from having too much
My belly is big and that's just the start
My appetite's my heart

Sometimes it feels that I could kill for desert

But this time, this time it's not a cow
It's kind of personal, can't explain to you why
This time, this time it's not a cow
So Mr. PC are you ready to bow

The story of my life
A big fork and the sharpest knife
I guess this solid, solid, solid, solid bridge leads me on
To the nearest fridge

And when I've had enough I just throw up and laugh
So this time, this time it's not a cow
It's kind of personal, can't explain to you why
This time, this time it's not a cow
So Mr. PC are you ready to bow
This time, this time it's not a cow, not a cow
No this time, this time, this time, this time it's not a cow
Not a pig, sheep, chicken, moose, duck, snake, horse or frog

    My Interpretation

All of these comments are talking about it being about vegearianism but like, me and a few friends are pretty damn sure its about cannibalism. I mean it might be a stretch but, there are a few lines in it that seem kinda sketchy like "sometimes it feels that I could kill for desert". Yes, ik thats a common phrase and all but I mean he could be serious. An other is "guess this solid bridge leads me on to the nearest fridge" this line really could mean that he's just looking for the nearest fridge, but thats strange, If you're looking for a fridge what would you be doing on a bridge (or at least long enough to where it gets included in the song) maybe by fridge he means his next victim. The last line that seems sketchy is " a big fork and the sharpest knife". This line seems strange because he does clarify that its not beef he's eating, but its also none of the other meats people eat, but if he's vegetarian why would he need the 'sharpest' knife specifically. I mean I'm not vegetarian but i've eaten plenty of veggies in my days but i've almost never needed to use a knife, let alone the sharpest one. The only time I've ever really needed a knife for veggies was to cut it for prep but that usually doesn't include the eating bit that he's so obsessed about. So it's most likely meat since he uses a knife, But if its not meat and its not from a cow or the other animals he listed then what could it be? He even put in some obscure meats that most americans don't eat like horse or frog, but he didn't list human. This is why i think its about cannibalism.

i'm wondering if this song also has a metaphorical meaning? the first line sort of sets it up...

The story of my life, well let's just say it's a fork and a knife

i dunno, just made me think of eating food as a metaphor for life?

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
