In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Hooked by the night
Of desirable obelisks
Looking for my bunny foot charm
Whole lotta leeches
Cleft of the dial
Luck to the 9 life cloud
If only
If only
If only the morgue was vacant
Under weight
Of these counterfeit tantrums
I'd rather not face myself
Intangible coping mechanism holding
Burning to the finger of my flight risk button
If only
If only
If only the morgue would take me
Zero hour Zero hour Won
Zero hour Zero hour Won
Probable doldrums
Monitor the owners
Swaying to the Midwitch sound
Celibate truce
Look into the eight ball
Handcuffed to the steering column
Whole lotta leeches
Cleft of the dial
Luck is the 9 life cloud
If only
If only
If only the morgue was vacant
Zero hour Zero hour Won
Zero hour Zero hour Won
In the tear folds we were waiting
But serum kept us bound
Pulling at my pockets
What trajectory am I?
We were swimming against the current
When the answers came to town
Forced my hands behind me
We had to put him down
Calling
Let me go
Get the incident together
And remember to let it go
Transponder check the transponder
Transponder check the transponder
Despondent at high noon
Of desirable obelisks
Looking for my bunny foot charm
Whole lotta leeches
Cleft of the dial
Luck to the 9 life cloud
If only
If only
If only the morgue was vacant
Under weight
Of these counterfeit tantrums
I'd rather not face myself
Intangible coping mechanism holding
Burning to the finger of my flight risk button
If only
If only
If only the morgue would take me
