Mask of Weary Eyes

Now that the creature of crippling fear
Has turned its head
Now that the skin of sleepless nights
Has finally shed

I feel I can return
A wiser man
But the wounded defeated heart
Has another pathetic plan

It'll scrape from the blackened walls
What life it needs
But only enough to sustain
And enough to bleed

For beyond the lifeless cave
Of necessity
The creature awaits its prey
Of misguided strength

Its weakened vessel still out in the vold
A mask of weary eyes and bones of old
Even though the last battle was the deepest hell I've found
It always seems so simple the second time around

"Run free now, you'll return"
"Hope guide you, you won't learn"

Now, the time has come to strengthen the shield
Lay down the spear, submit and yield
Centuries I've lived in fear,
Awaiting lessons from the writings in scars
All I've learned from all these years
The beast is immortal so I'll never tread

I know all the secrets of
The monster's hidden thirst
So I'll restrain it with despair

The bare bones are well known
