Some people watch
Some people pray
But even lights can fade away.
Some people hope
Some people pay
But why'd we have to stay?
'Cause even heroes
Get the blues
Or any misery you choose
You like to watch
We like to use
And we were born to lose

I choose defeat
I walk away
And leave this place
The same today
Some like to sleep
We like to play
Just look at all that pain

You want the heart
Or to be saved
But even good guys still get paid
So watch my back
And keep the blade
I think it got you laid
So fake your death
Or it's your blame
And leave the lights on when you stay
Take off your clothes
And dream that fame
Come on and feel that shame

I choose defeat
I walk away
And leave this place
The same today
Some like to sleep
We like to play
Just look at all that pain

Just look at all that pain
Just look at all that pain
Just look at all that pain
Just give me all that pain
Just give me all that pain
Just give me all that pain

I choose defeat
I walk away
And leave this place
The same today
Some like to sleep
We like to play
Just look at all that pain

Gerard said on twitter the song was a eulogy (twitter.com/gerardway/status/425675915734290432 - warning: may induce nausea), as did Mikey in the March 22, 2014, issue of Kerrang. Their first song, Our Lady of Sorrows, references a switchblade fight.

Compare the lyrics to Frank's song below:

    They Wanted Darkness…

Sometimes we miss old friends, until we remember we weren’t friends. You see, treachery in memories always takes a different spin…until it happens again and again. And its that time again, you’re just in time to break me down. You said you want my pain? So i gave you pain. I’ll give you pain, until it’s gone. You wanna know my deal, the reason I can’t deal. Why I crack under the pressure of always feeling guilty of never pleasing anyone because no one here can get over themselves. But it’s that time again, there’s always time, to bring me down. You say you want my heart, just to tear it apart. But that’s my favorite part of me, yea that’s the only part I love. You can’t tell me how to be myself, just wait, I’m gonna try my best to figure it out for myself. You cant break me down again or change my mind on this, because I’m breaking out of this, your darkness. No ones ever felt like this before, oh no, because no one’s ever been like me before, I’m sure of it, sure of it. You can’t tell me, how to be myself, just wait, I’m gonna try my best to figure it out for myself. You cant break me down again or change my mind on this, because I’m breaking out of this, your darkness. Would you die for me if I lived for you? But turn your back on me, if I continue to follow my heart? How could you? Throw me away, just let me be, and hate me for me. ( I can’t be so, perfectly, untrue for you.) Loving a lie, deny me my life, but I still love by you…but why should I?

Also, in "I'll Let You Down" is the line "You smiled so sweetly as you twisted your blade..."

A eulogy, but not a willing one, especially if intended to encourage all the other members - or at least Frank - to quit.

This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

American Town

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
